COURSE OBJECTIVES
Through class discussions, leader interviews, and applied primary research, students will understand organizational behavior and leadership theories in global settings and how they enhance or impede personal and organizational effectiveness.
Students will apply the skills necessary to manage and lead within global settings with an emphasis on developing self- & other-awareness regarding multiple leadership styles and how these approaches work in real life interactions with other variables (e.g., markets, industries, etc.)
Students will increase their cultural competence and global project management skills by doing serious, demanding work in dispersed global teams comprised of members drawn from a variety of cultures and backgrounds.
ORGANIZATION AND TEACHING METHODS
Through self-analysis, lectures and discussions, case studies and readings, conceptual frameworks, a global project, and individual assignments – we will embark on a three months journey together to jointly discover answers to the following questions: What are key leadership and management skills in our global context? To what degree do I have them? Need to develop some further? What are typical work place behaviors of leaders, groups and teams I need to understand and manage? Which leadership behaviors, policies and practices are particularly important in attracting and retaining talent, and communicating with employees in ways which add value to the organization? What is likely to change? How can I continue to learn and adapt?
