Synopsis
The Big Five personality test, this test was supposed to find out how a person ticks. It was going to show if a person was introvert or extrovert, caring or rude, organized or lazy, shy or outgoing. However the validity of the Big Five personality test comes into question because of the way a person has to answer the question. Their where five dots to fill in, 1 being strongly disagree to 5 being strongly agree with 2 3 4 in the middle. Now this is where it gets tricky, each person who would take this test will either fly through it without really considering each question or they will simply click strongly disagree or agree. Also this test can be taken as many times as a person wants to take it, which means if they do not like their first results they can go back to the test and retake it till they think it suits them. That is where the validity goes out the window. It can also stand to have more questions of the same nature so that if a person answers the same question differently it should be taken out, or at least when the

However each team member stated that their test results were completely accurate to a T. With tests you should not be able to go back to change an answer so that the results should depict something that is not true .According to “The validity of personality test”(1999) When a person takes a test, the person goes through mental processes so as to provide an answer. The test maker assumes that the person's processes reflect what the test is trying to measure. For example, if the test is measuring ability at mathematical problem solving, then the individual's mental processes should reflect problem solving rather than, say, remembering an answer that they already had memorized.     The use of the Myers Briggs test really interested me in this module for the fact that I’ve had to take it before in school. It is a personality sense that is quick, small, and a pretty simple but effective way to get the basic traits of someone’s personality. When I took it I was ENFJ which means the test considers my personality and me to be Extraverted, Intuitive, Feeling, and Judging. The test has a couple of questions and only takes 10 minutes on average to take. In each letter, there are 2 options for example the 1st topic depends on if you are introverted or extraverted. An introvert tends to be quiet, shy, and not liking to be the center of attention a lot, while an extrovert tends to be the team leader, the happy go lucky friend, and enjoys their parties from time to time. Then it assess if you are intuitive or observant, if you are intuitive you are imaginative and quick at finding a solution, or you could be observant which means you down to earth and you rely on your senses. The 3rd letter assesses between a person being thinking and feeling based. A Thinking fellow would be tough and focuses on the mind while a person who the test said was more feeling would be more sensitive and follow your hearts. The final letter depends on if you are a judging or prospecting individual. A Judging personality is decisive and seeks closure while a prospective individual is good at improvising situations and they seek freedom.     Although I am not specifically criticizing the use of this instrument in the general population, Mississippi’s Supreme Court is making a fundamental error. Had any of these justices or their staff taken the time to consult with any professional experienced in the assessment of people with mental retardation, they could have learned about this test and avoided making a very serious judicial error. The problem arising from these decisions cannot be overstated. First, according to the first paragraph of the introduction in the MMPI-2 manual, this measure is a broad-band test designed to a number of the major patterns of personality and emotional disorders. In the manual Hathaway and McKinley (1989) noted that ‘‘An eighth-grade elementary-school level of reading comprehension is required, as is a satisfactory degree of cooperation and commitment to the task of completing the inventory’’ (p. 1).     The big five personality test consisted of five different categories, openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and natural reactions. First off I think each category is extremely important when dealing with nursing, they play essential roles regarding their everyday work environment. With that being said I think the way a nurse scores is more or less equivalent to the type of they are with their patients. The first category is openness, which can mean to “think outside the box”, or to just be upfront and open, I think all nurses should score Farley high. An example could be when a patient is in pain and the medications they have is not helping it is a good idea to brainstorm on what to do to get your patient feeling up to par again, in other words to “think outside the box”, to get something more efficient for the patient. Being open is important as well, another example could be if they happen to mess up on a dosage of medication for their patient, it’s extremely important to be open with the doctor to let them know the mistake you made. Conscientiousness is the next category; it means to be thorough and well organized. Nurses should score high in this area; being organized is of great importance simply because a nurse that lacks in organization skills could accidently give a patient the wrong treatment because they got their notes mixed up or something of the sort. Organization also seems to keep you on point, to be on top of things, getting the job done without mistakes. The next category is extraversion, meaning if you are outgoing/socially active or if you prefer working/being alone. A nurse should be more socially active and outgoing because it can help them and their fellow coworkers to work as a team, it’s nice to be able to say “could you help me out with this”, and work together, rather than possibly struggling to do it alone.
