they guy gives the lollipop to the girl.
While clearly he doesn’t have a lot of confidence, he has enough to give the lollipop to the girl. Every leader needs confidence because without it, they can’t do anything big or important in life. When a person does anything large or extensive, they need confidence because they feel like they can do it and so then they do it. People feel that when they have confidence, they can do anything. In source E (my personal choice book), Johnis, one of the main characters, is not the world’s most confident person, but in fact, quite the opposite. He has absolutely no confidence at the beginning of the story but towards the end he gains enough assertiveness to not only lead his people but to make them follow him with force. In the same way people can have the same thing happen to them. Sometimes being dominant takes practice. But over time one can get better so they can do whatever they need to do …show more content…
in order to succeed. Once one becomes confident enough, they can be like Johnis and walk without fear, whether it is coming from potential followers or other leaders, one must be self-confident in what they do in order to succeed. A leader must be more feared than loved.
One example of this is in source B (Machiavelli The Prince) when he starts talking about a prince and comparing him to another one and how to avoid the reputation of cruelty he allowed his country to be destroyed. This shows that leaders must keep their subjects in line so war doesn’t break out. The second prince (the one who destroyed the country) must’ve had too much mercy and therefore didn’t have a whole lot of respect. If a leader wants to gain respect, they must govern their people well and not be afraid of them liking them or not. Another example of this is in source B when Machiavelli starts talking about how a leader should be between cruelty and tenderheartedness. This shows that if a leader is too tenderhearted, their followers won’t take them seriously, but if they’re too cruel, people will simply start hating them and he and his people will be annihilated. One must fall in between the borders of respect and mercy. Once a leader does that, their subjects will not only respect them but also like them. But a leader must not be overconfident. In source C (speeches from Julius Caesar), Mark Antony says Brutus is a well-respected man and is right; except he says it in a sarcastic tone. Likewise if a leader is so confident they think they can do no wrong, their subjects leave them because they know that they aren’t perfect. But once they commit a wrong, everyone freaks out. They believe that their dominant one always knows what
to do and doesn’t need help figuring it out. Brutus thinks he is right, and he might very well be right, but sometimes it’s better to be liked rather than to be respected because people will follow you better. Ultimately, it is better to be feared rather than loved because one can get more out of his leadership. A leader must be self-confident because without it, they won’t lead at all. A leader must have respect because they can get more out of their leadership. Without dominance, there can be no respect for leadership, only for trying. So all in all, a leader must be confident and respected in order to achieve their goals as a leader.
