Synthesis Essay: How Technology Has Improved Our Lives

Most of us rely on the internet on a daily basis, but did you know it's actually good for you?
Oh, you're afraid of the internet; you're afraid of how technology has taken over our lives? Well, many people believe that the internet and advancing technology has benefited our lives. While many wait around for letters to come through "Snail mail", the rest of the world can receive its messages within seconds through email. This is one example of how technology has improved our lives with access to information quickly.
Technology teaches many useful things and it also lets people communicate with others from a long distance. It helps people get information way faster than before, like doing research on encyclopedias. I think, with the idea
that there should not be limits on the time teens spend online.
Americans live at least some portion of their lives online.
While some might claim the Internet is chaining us to our devices, causing us to shun human contact, and sometimes sunshine; the Internet has also given us new ways to communicate, learn, and explore the world at large; possibly giving us a better opportunity to enjoy the sunshine.
When teachers give assignments, we mostly do them on the computer. By students using the computer, they naturally have the chance to improve their typing skills. "All of the multitasking online can actually help teens learn to type quickly".(Source 1)Therefore, teenagers need more time on the computer, because in the future they will be using them a lot more. However, if they are playing online games, that's not going to really improve much of their typing skill.
At school, students get projects and essays. By getting that they have to research the information to be able to do the work. "Teens who are motivated to learn new things will be forced to learn better research skills that will stay with them for the rest of their lives".(Source 2) Therefore, as teenagers gets older, they will need to know how to find the information they are looking for. For example, when they are going to apply for a job. They need information about the company they are going into and they may need to know how to make a
resume.
New York Times has made it easier for students to access information they need. Also, they added new features for they can learn more and be interested in it. “Features like graphs, charts, slideshows and videos that can be very useful for teaching and learning often get buried in the mountain of articles published daily. Without knowing a headline, students can have a hard time unearthing them simply using Search.”(Source 3) It can be seen that The New York Times wants teenagers to be able to find there information easily. As a result to that, if you know the headline of an article it would just pop up right away. That's very convenient because sometimes you can spend a long time trying to find what you need. It's true that teenagers should go out more and interact with people and that it could be harmful to be on the computer for so long. But my reasons are better because you can figure out a way to be on the computer and go out for a bit. Nowadays, a lot of things are on the internet. Despite all the negative information about technology, being on the internet can help you in many things. For example future jobs or school.
In conclusion, teenagers can spend as long as they want on the computer. They could be doing homework, studying, playing games, etc. Being on the computer teaches you many things that can be useful for their future.
