to each other makes for an awkward situation. The first time we had group the purpose of the group was explained, rules about confidentiality were stated, and guidelines with focusing on the here and now were told. After everything was explained we were asked to jump in. I can’t remember if I said anything that day but if I did it was probably responding to what someone had said. The second time we met Raven who had not been there the first time broke the ice. She was really brave because she told us a little about her relationship with her boyfriend. After that things just started to pick up in-group. Furthermore, the third time we met was very emotional. It was emotional because two of our group members self disclosed about some major things from there childhood. That helped me see that you really can’t a judge a book by its cover. I had no idea that these girls had terrible childhoods, I mean how could I know. I have to confess to me they seemed like basic white girls who were probably super spoiled, but I was wrong. That changed my prospective a lot. I also couldn’t believe they had said what they said to the group. Personally I could never say that to people I have just met. Clearly, when it comes to self-disclosing we all do it at different levels.
