chlorine is added as a disinfectant, and fluoride is added for its dental health benefits". Safer for our communities making up the world. In 1974, America established The Safe Drinking Water Act to make certain water is safe to drink or use. Bottled water contains about 3 times as many chemicals than tap water (Hamilton 6). With men and women watching over our water, it creates careers in water conservation.
These jobs will help save water for now and later in the future. There are many, including enviromental scientists, hydrolistist, and chemists. They all work together to make sure the water people drink is safe. Creating jobs in America is a major factor because it helps the economy and population increase. "Most of the wages in water conservation had the annual median wages that were near or above the national median annual wage of $34,750 in May 2012"(Hamilton 2). With more income in families, the demand for water rises like using more for showers, pools, watering gardens, and washing fancy vehicles. Try filling up a swimming pool with bottles of water, it will take days to
accomplish. When families experience an income decline in their home it is likely that they almost live off of tap water. With it being unlimited it saves money for people who can't afford the elegance of bottled water. It is a cheaper alternative than buying 24 bottles at 6 dollars when having easy access to safe water at home for free. If people use more of it and pay their water bill, it can increase their local community funds to help with public locations, education, and income for people in need. Environmentally, bottled water is not safe. It takes anywhere from 70 to 450 years to degrade a single plastic bottle (O'Connor). It is tested way more than water at home because of all the chemicals used to protect the label. It may be portable, but so is a cup at home people can use all the time. This type of H2O is currently being tested for chemicals inside and outside the bottle for cancer producers. Is this really something people are buying for children for their school lunches? An English class had a experiment with three variables: off-brand bottled water, zepherhills, and tap water. More than half the class could not tell the difference in all three. If society can not taste or see the difference this should mean it is the same, when really, tap water is the safer choice. People, in towns, cities, counties make sure that water is safe for our families. Have trust in tap water and stop spending about $1,000 dollars per year on bottled water when people can be healthier and save money with the water they have at home.
