One Bad Decision
Many Americans have chosen to follow in their idols footsteps, by getting a tattoo. In today’s society a plethora of individuals choose to put the needles on their skin to have a permanent, painful marking. Even though tattoos became a recent fad, they will cause permanent damage to the skin and the self-image of one’s self.
Since the celebrities started getting tattoos, it has influenced the general people to think it was a “cool” thing to do. A PEW Research center survey found that 36 percent of people age 18 to 25, and 40 percent of those age 26 to 40 have at least one tattoo (Trebay). Not everyone gets a tattoo, but in today’s society it is becoming more popular. The percentages of people that choose not to get a tattoo are smart, because they know they will end up regretting it in the future. In opposition, people disagree and say tattoos are a way to show sentimental value, religious beliefs, and to be identified differently than everyone else (“Tattoo”). People that believe in a religion normally just go to church to show their beliefs, and there is an abundance of different ways to stand out in society without the risk of damaging the skin forever. As people continue to get tattooed each year, more and more people end up living life in regret when the trendy tattoo diminishishes.
Society states that people with distinctive tattoos send out a negative message that can imply that the person is in a gang or some sort of criminal activity. Most quality employers can agree that people with distinct tattoos have a lower chance of finding a respectable career (Bennigton). In the business, world tattoos are found to be very unprofessional (Trebay). Furthermore, countless people with tattoos are of lower income and lower educational backgrounds (Bennington).
