Health and Safety is the responsibility of everyone but ultimately it is the responsibility of the Health and Safety officer (head teacher) to oversee and monitor. The Safety Officer responsibilities are:
The implementation of Health and Safety policy and to liaise with the governors to ensure full compliance with all its requirements.
To periodically review the policy and draft amendments when ever necessary.
To appoint persons to deal with the day to day issues on Health, Safety and Welfare.
To make sure all employees are supplied with a copy of the Health and Safety policy and that they are aware of their responsibilities.
To formulate and provide Health and Safety training policy for staff.
To monitor the safety performance of the school and if needed take steps to improve performance.
To ensure that the appropriate staff liaise with subject advisers and Health and Safety officer/co-coordinator on Health and Safety matters
To promote an interest in, and enthusiasm for Health and Safety throughout the school
To provide on going recommendations and present an annual report on Health and Safety to the governing body
The Business Manager and Caretaker maintain the school buildings and areas surrounding it, ensuring these areas are safe.
Our Business Manager is also our Health and Safety Co-ordinator and responsible for school assessments including:
ICT hardware
PAT electrical equipment
Fire safety
Building maintenance
Asbestos and legionnaires
COSHH regulations 2002 (control of substances hazardous to health)
Site security
Health and Safety Co-ordinator responsibilities are:
To carry out investigations and periodically inspect the premises and activities to make sure the law is being complied with to the highest possible, practical and attainable standard.
The organisation of periodic fire drills.
