As parents and adults living in today’s faced paced society there are some things that require our concentrated and immediate attention. One of those things is our teenagers and their poor driving habits. After thinking about ways to prevent further accidents, automobile homicides etc., I feel that driver’s education training should be required for drivers under 18 years old to decrease teenage accident rates.
A perfect example of this fast- paced society is in what a tremendous influence the entertainment industry has on our teenagers. One major example of this could be the very popular movie trilogy “The Fast and the Furious” this movie completely glamorizes speed with no regard for safety at all. The actors are lionized and could even serve as “role models” to some. These movies are extremely unrealistic in that very little law enforcement is shown further providing the teens with a completely false inclination that it is okay to drive at ridiculously high speeds and not get caught, in the end lack of responsibility for these actions fall on the shoulders of the parents and society. “In addition, the AAP also recommends that the entertainment industry should avoid portraying speeding and reckless driving, and instead show universal use of safety belts” (Lancaster General, Teenage Drivers, 2009, Para 6). “According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), teenage drivers and passengers are among those least likely to wear their seat belts” ( National Highway Traffic Safety Administration; Additional Resources, 2009, Para. 8). Although we know the movie industry is the business of making money from these major movies they should also consider the influence they have over the youth that pay to see these movies by displaying responsible behavior.
Does responsibility have anything to do with driving? Of course it does. It is such
