Should teen’s internet time be limited?

As a teen, I am on the internet about two hours a day and I have experienced many dangers online. The internet does not just include your laptop but it also includes your phone, and all other devices of that sort. Just because you can use the internet for information school and work does not mean there is no other dangers out there to be aware of. In the 21st century a teen going on the internet has become a danger and internet time should be limited; it is a danger to them both psychologically and psychically. Internet should be limited because it causes many physiological problems with teens. Main issues facing teens today is internet and gaming addiction, as well as violence in media. Due to modern technology, the younger generation, rather than socializing in real life, they communicate through social media like Facebook and Twitter. The average time for teens to spend online is 20 hours a day, seven days a week, which is an addiction. There have been reports of internet overuse in Japan, Germany, and the United States of teens who spend 40 hours a week online. Violence caused by online games is a major issue facing teens. Many things influences behavior. If it did not, companies, like Coca-Cola or Nike, would not put money into advertising. You see violence everywhere in your life now, including the news and especially cartoons. So this means the internet is not excluded. Many studies have been conducted to show that violence on television and the internet can influence behavior and attitudes among children whom abuse it. The violence shown in media scientifically desensitizes children to violence and sexual crimes against women, children, and teens. In today’s world playing violent games and watching violent movies may seem “the norm”, but it can cause violence and abusive behavior. Teen’s time on the internet should be limited because they

The Internet is a global computer network, which connects millions of computers through the whole world. The Internet has been mainstream since the mid-90's and has only become more embedded in our lives. Yet, I find we are still discussing how to protect our children at a somewhat basic level. Many children these days use, or at least have, access to the internet. But most people are blinded by all the benefits of the internet, and fail to notice any of the problems that can come from overuse. Since the internet is a new technology, not many studies have been done to determine how beneficial or harmful it can be to children. Although the internet may have many benefits to children, it can also be very harmful to them. One of the most obvious problems with children using the internet is the chance of getting addicted. Internet addiction is a serious thing, but hasn’t drawn much attention due to the fact that it is a newer problem in society. Children that have grown up using computers will naturally be more susceptible to getting hooked on the internet. Many children spend more time on the computer than they spend watching television. Most of the time children spend on the computer can be attributed to the internet. This computer overuse results in less time for children to study, do homework, read, exercise, or participate in any out of their school organizations. Such a pattern will eventually affect the child’s grades, health, and social life.…

“What Adolescents Miss When we let them grow Up in Cyberspace” written by Brent Staples is a great essay and has many strong points. But I’m going to disagree with this one. The fact that staples has argued that the internet is taking over teenagers social life has offended me and my generation. I differ with his arguments. I believe that the internet has made today’s teenagers more socialize and more connected than ever. Facebook, msn, gmail, twitter etc is a great tool for teenagers to stay in touch and makes it easier for each of them to communicate. The internet is a great tool for teenagers to meet and make new friends around the world. I believe that the internet has made teenagers more attentive than before. Let’s use twitter as an example. Twitter is a social site where you and other people update your status. It is a site where you can check what your friends are doing at the moment. It is a great tool to broadcast news to people (including teenagers who does not read or watch the news) without even turning the TV on or reading a long article from a newspaper. It is a wonderful site to keep each individual updated and informed with each other and around the world.…

Scientist have proven that the internet causes damage to young children. By children turning to the internet for all activities such as games, learning, and pleasure. it’s socially not normal for kids to be on the internet all day. In How the Internet Gets Inside Us Gopnik gives us a statement from Nicholas Carr who is an author about technology and culture. Carr says, “As a technology, a book focuses our attention, isolates us from the myriad distractions that fill our everyday lives.…

This can easily occur in the real world as well. But the only way to know what is real and what is not online, is through interacting online and gaining experience. This experience can be gained when a person communicates on the internet. If this means a child is not getting interaction, it is the parents responisiblity to limit the computer time if it is overly excessive.. If a child is on the computer days on end , it is just as bad as watching TV all day. They can easily limit the type forcing the child to find another activity. Just as well, Brent says that it is only adolscents that mask themselves behind the computer, when in fact equally as many adults do this as well. Adults go to the internet for the same reasons teens do, and Brent should realize they encounter the same effects if they are on the computer…

Though a wonderful educational and social resource, the internet poses a multitude of dangers of its own. In this day and age most homes have the internet and even cafes and shops offer wifi services so people can access the internet from pretty much anywhere and with games consoles, mobile phones and a multitude of other devices having internet capabilities you do not need to own a computer or laptop now to be able to access the world wide web. Unfortunately peadophiles and other dangerous and unsavoury characters have cottoned on to the power of the internet and use it for their own vile ends. Having the internet in your home or in school is almost like opening the door to the world and if youre not careful, inviting anyone in. Most children do not see the possible dangers lurking on facebook and in online chatrooms and gamerooms and it is our job as adults and educators to help protect children online and help them to understand the threats that are there in cyberspace.…

However I can see how some people are. It gives you pleasure to surf the web or go on twitter when you’ve got nothing else to do. It’s also a huge distraction when doing homework. If you’re confused with an assignment, it’s very easy to take a 10 minutes break and scroll through social media sites. But, suddenly, that 10 minutes turns into an hour and you’ve wasted a great deal of time basically doing nothing. Also, it is very inappropriate to use your phone in class, especially if the professor prohibits it. When you’re in class you should be focused on your work, not looking at pictures on Instagram or texting your friend. The two factors of teen risk taking and use of the internet definitely tie into each other. Internet should be used in moderation but because it is so easily available to teens, it makes it hard for them to resist the feeling they have when they use…

Teens try to get away with things for they could be able to go on the internet. For example with their homework if they don’t do it it’s going to affect them in school. Sometimes being on social media or in general, the internet can really distract young teens. It distracts them on what they need to work on for school.
