Teenagers Work Can Have Downsides By Jerald G Bachman Summary
The article “Teenagers’ Work Can Have Downsides” by Jerald G. Bachman explains why teenage student should or should not work while in school. According to the article, students who work for long hours and attend school too have poor academic performance. Also when teen work for long hours their behavior starts to become worse and they start to consume drugs such as smoking cigarettes and other drugs. On the other hand the article also talks about teenagers going to work for a few hours per week and attend school at the same time, and those who work for short amount of hours are better off than the tennagers that attend school and don’t work. In my opinion I would say teenagers should work for a short amount of hours because if they work for a lot of hours per week than they wouldn’t be able to do their homework due to the fact that they don’t have time. …show more content…
And when they don’t do their homework, it affects there them so much if they are going to want to go to college. When they go home so late and want to do their homework they’re not going to have enough sleep and going to be too tired in next morning. If they don’t go to college then they must be working all for even longer hours or maybe even get a second job just to have money. If teens were to work for a shorter amount of time then we would have time to do there homework and other assignments.yes, they would be tired but it’s better off to get paid a little less and have your homework done. When you work and have time to do homework you also have time to get enough sleep so when you wake up, you wouldn’t be so

First of all, an important fact is a teenager of the current generation gets a poor amount of sleep. The national health society states that a teenager should have a total of 9 hours and 20 minutes of sleep to perform at their best in school but in reality a student stacked with AP classes, sport, or a job gets far less than the national level. The average amount of sleep a teenager gets is under 5 hours for 25% of college and high school students which correlates with decreased performance that they show at school. Some schools in the U.S. has already tried this and one teacher at Chatnooga High School said,” The kids are more attentive because they realize there is much less time so they come in and do it.”…

The clock hits 7:30 and I just get home and haven’t been home all day. Then I realize that I have to do English homework, social studies, science and math. This has happened to me many times. The second reason we shouldn’t have homework is it is a major health issue for most kids. First off, you get less sleep because some teens have to stay up all night because they get home late and still have to do a lot of homework. Students in middle school need a lot of sleep because they have to wake up at 6:00. People say that kids from ages 10-18 need at least 8-9 hours of sleep and some teens only get 6-7 because there up so late doing homework. The second reason homework is a health issue is it gives kids a lot of stress because they have to do homework and don’t want to forget anything. This gives students more stress because they already have stress from tests, lessons and exams. The last reason why homework is a health issue is kids…

Most teens would go to sleep in the classroom thinking that they can do there work later and them sleeping in class won't affect them sleeping in class. In the real world it is not the same. If you go to sleep during work, your boss would eventually catch you and fire you. If he/she catches you not working, you will not receive your paycheck and you need money to sustain yourself. I believe school should not start later in the morning because of these reasons.…

It is kind of saddening when the entire class is tired and unwilling to work because of a multitude of reasons out of the student’s control. Many people assume that teens just stay up too late on social media, but some teens have clubs they attend to or sports, then go to jobs that where they work for hours then come home, complete homework all around 1-2 AM. Doing this day after day puts stress on students. Is it any wonder then why students find themselves having breakdowns trying to manage their school life? They are pressed to find time in the morning to find motivation to go to school so early and have to do it day after…

I seriously had never looked at it in the way Amitia put it. I think it is good for a teenager to have a job because it helps them appreciate life more. They actually see the worth of items. I never looked at it as it was not teaching a teenager anything. I am still going to stick with my theory though, because teenagers who come from two parents homes and are used to their parents purchasing everything, this teaches the teenager to appreciate their parent’s dollar. I would agree though that the teenager who does not have parents could definitely fall into the category of purchasing things they should not. They will also fall into the category of not saving and will never learn. Some teens will come from…

A common phrase among young adults in secondary education is that there are three parts to high school life: social life, grades, and sleep. Pick two. Clifton Parker, on a study by education scholar Denise Pope, states “spending too much time on homework mean[s] students [are] ‘not meeting their developmental needs or cultivating other critical life skills,’” Students [are] more likely to drop activities, not see friends or family, and not pursue hobbies they enjoy.” To achieve grades that fulfill collegiate ambitions, students must spend all of the time they may spend with family or friends on the homework that earns them points. Teachers often assume that a student’s overall productivity is defined by the amount of work completed in a night. Many end up assigning at least an hour of homework to assure themselves that the kids are learning. Real life productivity is defined by advancement and development of character or leadership. Through that lens, completing busywork is not productive. Once students reach the real world, they are underprepared and underdeveloped to face day to day challenges. In an interview, Christine Gross-Loh quotes Krista Kuru, Finnish Education Chief, describing the reasoning against this approach. She states “Academics isn't all kids need. Kids need so much more. School should be where we teach the meaning of life; where kids learn they are needed; where they can learn community skills.…
