show until you're around six to twelve months old. Humans have two sets of teeth, milk teeth or baby teeth and once that fall out you get your adult teeth. Humans have four different types of teeth, incisors, canine, premolars, and molars. Humans have eight incisor teeth; they are located in the front of the mouth and are used to cut food. Humans have four Canine teeth and they are used to hold, grasp, and tear food. Human have eight premolars and they are used to hold and crush food, Humans have six molars and they are used to grind food. Tooth decay is the destruction of tooth enamel. Tooth enamel is the hard outermost layer of your teeth. Tooth enamel is also the hardest part of your entire body. Plaque is a sticky film of bacteria that is constantly forming on your teeth. When you consume food or drinks containing sugar the plaque uses the sugar to produce acid that attack the enamel. The plaque will stay on your teeth and over time break down the enamel and destroy your teeth. Easy steps to prevent tooth decay are brush two times a day with fluoride toothpaste. Floss your teeth daily and stay away for food with high amounts of sugar. The average human spends thirty eight days in their life time brushing their teeth. Modern toothpaste has only been around for about one hundred years. Before modern toothpaste people would use lemon juice, caracole, and many other mixtures. The average person’s moth produces twenty five thousand quarts of saliva. (Randy Taylor-Irwin, 2013)
People consider teeth to be one of the most useful parts of the body. Gums are located in the mouth, the pink tissue below your teeth. Gums support and surround the teeth. When your gums are healthy they cover the entire root of the tooth. They should also be pretty firm and not bleed when flossed, brushed, or poked. Weak gums show the root of the tooth and have a great deal of bleeding. If you don’t take care of your gums by brushing and flossing you will run into big problems down the road. Some of the common problems are tooth decay, dry mouth, gum disease, and oral cancer.
Dry mouth is when your saliva glands stop working correctly. Dry mouth will make it hard to do simple tasks like eating, tasting, swallowing, and speaking. You can prevent dry mouth by drinking plenty of fluids, cut down on sugar and stay away from alcohol or tobacco.
Gum disease are infections that effects the bones which hold up the teeth and the gums If you don’t brush plaque will build up and begin to form a solid harmful covering referred to as tartar. Even brushing cannot get rid of the tartar. The long the plaque and tartar build upon the teeth the more harm it will cause to the teeth and gums. Your gums will begin to bleed very easily and become swollen and red. A very helpful product to stop gum disease is fluoride. Fluoride is an all natural martial found in earths water and in earth’s crust. The simplest ways to prevent gum disease is to floss your teeth daily, eat a balanced diet, and stay away from junk foods and sugary food or drinks. Also you should brush with fluoride toothpaste, brush your teeth and gums and stay away from tobacco products. (Joe Wider, 1993)
Oral cancer is cancer of the mouth.
Oral cancer occurs commonly in people over the age of 40. Surprisingly Pain is not one of the common symptoms of this cancer. It is very critical to catch oral cancer in its early stages because the treatments work much better before it spreads. Also if you catch oral cancer in the early stages you will have a much better chance of getting rid of it all at once. An annual dental checkup is the quickest and easiest way to spot and stop the cancer before it spreads. Surprisingly even if you have already lost all your teeth you can still catch oral cancer. Common signs of oral cancer are swelling, numbness, and lumps. Also having trouble swallowing or moving your tongue and jaw are common signs of oral cancer. Easy ways to stay away from oral cancer are not smoking or chewing tobacco, not drinking alcohol, and eat a lot of fruits and vegetables. (Barbra Wexler, …show more content…

Tooth decay is the destroying of the enamel that protects and surrounds the teeth. Enamel is the hardest part of the human body. Your teeth are meant to last you your entire life and tooth decay is not just a problem in children. Most people think tooth decay is only a problem for children because all the sugars and junk kids have like candy and soda. Adults also drink soda. Tooth decay can occur as long as you have natural teeth inside your mouth. When you don’t take care of your mouth the clingy bacteria plaque will cling to your teeth. The plaque will end up leading to tooth decay and cavities. Cavities are very painful. If you have a cavity it is painful to drink cold drinks and chew food on or near the cavity. Luckily cavities are fixable by the doctor. The bad thing is cavities can become very expensive and can cause enormous amounts of pain. Gum disease can also cause your teeth to begin to decay. You can use the same steps to prevent tooth decay as you would prevent gum disease. The best way to prevent tooth decay is fluoride tooth paste and fluoride mouth wash. (Ians,2014)
If you lose one or all your adult teeth you could get dentures. Dentures are replacement for missing teeth. You can remove them and put them back I place. Dentures look and feel like natural teeth, no one can tell the difference. Dentures might cause your mouth to be less sensitive to foods and liquids with high temperature. There are some problems with dentures; they make it harder to notice harmful products in your mouth such as bones.
Drinks can also destroy and decay your teeth. Drinks with high acidic levels can damage the tooth enamel within the first thirty seconds of contact. Acidic drinks can permanently damage young kid’s teeth for the rest of their lives. Some people believe that brushing your teeth after will get rid of the acid and no damage will be done. People who think that are wrong the damage is already done on impact. (Shuana Roberts, 2005) Drinks that have high acidic levels are soft drinks, diet soft drinks, and energy drinks. Examples of these are coke, diet coke, mountain dew, sprite, monster energy and red bull. You should only drink these drinks on occasions or just stay away from them all together, for the best chance of healthy teeth. Drinks with medium acidic levels are juices. You can dinks juices but don’t have to much because they do have a lot of acid. Good drinks to drink daily are milk and water. These drinks have very low acidic levels, close to none.
You should not sip on or drink the high acidic level drinks slowly and let them sit in your mouth. If you do this it gives the acid time to attack your teeth. Also you should never drink the drinks on the high acidic level before bed because it will pool in your mouth as you sleep. This will give the acid a long chance to attack, break down, and destroy your teeth. The best solution is to brush your teeth daily with fluoride tooth paste and mouth wash. Also you should just stick with the basic low level acidic drinks like milk and water. This will keep your teeth in better shape.
Teeth are the most important and usful parts of the body. Without our teeth it would be very hard to eat because we couldn’t be able to break down our food.
