Introduction
I. Legend has it that at the beginning of time, Gods met in a city to plan the creation of the universe. One of the mighty Gods was chosen to serve as the sun while another frail God had to serve as the moon. During the ceremony, the great God refrained from throwing himself into the bonfire as he was afraid. That is when the weak God stepped forward and threw himself instead. Embarrassed by his inferior’s bravery, the great God threw himself in as well. Eventually, two suns emerged rising towards the sky. The other Gods angry with the great God’s hasty actions, decided to dim his light. Thus, changing the great God into the moon, condemned forever to follow the sun. …show more content…
This legend takes place in the “City of the Gods” or Teotihuacan in the ancient Aztec language. Teotihuacan is a city that lies about 50 km north-east of modern-day Mexico City. Thriving for over 600 years, the city was mysteriously burnt and deserted leaving nothing for us to trace other than their monuments, art and tombs.
