My time here at South Brunswick High School has been a time for self-exploration. I spent my first two years at SBHS trying to find out who I was as a person and what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Ever since I was young, I yearned for the opportunity to help not only humanity but the world as well. My whole family is full of engineers, so since a young age I despised them. I saw the path of engineering as a beaten path that simply wasn’t for me; I sought to be unique. However, I failed to realize that engineers were the people building towards the future. Critics of the company believed that electric cars would never be consumer-friendly as they would be too expensive and difficult to use. Elon Musk, however, proved all of these people wrong by building an eco-friendly line of electric cars at consumer-friendly prices. Tesla has cars ranging from $30,000 to $130,000. Also, the car is in fact easier to operate and use than most car brands such as Mercedes, BMW, and Audi. Elon Musk showed me through the establishment of Tesla Motors that engineering encompasses risk because ideas and inventions could be complete failures(the initial critique of Tesla). Elon Musk taught me that engineering takes innovation through his creation of SolarCity. Before the creation of SolarCity, Solar Energy seemed like a myth to mankind. However, Musk took a myth and turned it into a reality. He was daring enough to take the first step into the market of renewable energy, solar energy more specifically. Prior to this, no one even imagined creating solar panels for the everyday consumer and he simply did it.
