Thank You M Am, By Langston Hughes
In Thank You M’am, by Langston Hughes, Mrs. Jones’s kindness changes Roger. She changes him in a positive way. In the beginning of the story, the boy tries to do pure evil, and to steal things. At the end of the story, Roger thanks Mrs. Jones and shows that he actually payed attention to and applied what Mrs. Jones taught him.

“…a boy ran up behind her and tried to snatch her purse.” To begin the story, we are introduced to a boy attempting to steal Mrs. Jones’s purse. “When she got to her door, she dragged the boy inside, down a hall, and into a large kitchenette-furnished room at the rear of the house.” This shows that Mrs. Jones is starting to show that she cares about Roger. “Um-hum!
