Reconstruction Essay: Death to Reconstruction! A war took place in the North and in the South. The Civil War was fought for the abolishment of slavery in the south. After the war, the rest of the country needed to restore as a unified government. This was called Reconstruction. The north liked the idea of abolishing slavery while the south objected the abolishment. North or South: Who killed Reconstruction? The North and the South both killed Reconstruction for two different reasons: 1)In the South supporters of Reconstruction were being killed and intimidated by the KKK. 2)Meanwhile in the North, people were dealing with corruption and the Panic of 1873, so they wanted to concentrate on their own problems.
