In the play Romeo and Juliet, the adults are partly to blame for the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. Friar Lawrence, Romeo’s mentor, had a part of the responsibility. He should have told the parents about Romeo and Juliet’s relationship. Also, he made up the rushed plan that backfired and ultimately killed the young lovers. He also left Juliet at the time when she needed him most. However, I think that the fate of the star-crossed lovers was also a major player in their untimely death, as it was foreshadowed all throughout the play.
Friar Lawrence was a mentor in the play Romeo and Juliet, and played a key role in the demise of Romeo and Juliet. When Romeo asked Friar Lawrence to marry him to Juliet, he should have been and responsible adult, said no, and told the parents. However, he thought that this marriage could bring the two families together and end the feud. This could have worked, but Romeo killed Tybalt and was consequently banished from Verona. The Friar, still wanting peace between the Montagues and the Capulets, came up with a plan. He proposed that Romeo should leave Verona and wait for things to die down, and then come back and marry Juliet in public. This plan did not go through, as Juliet learnt that she was to marry Paris in several days.
The Friar still wanted to stop the fight between the two families, and came up with another rushed idea. This went against his advice that he gave to Romeo. “Wisely, and slow. They stumble that run fast." This plan was ill-conceived, and relied on too many things. Juliet was to drink and potion that would make her look dead for 42 hours. The Capulets would place Juliet in an open coffin, and after the time was up, Romeo would come and rescue her. Unsurprisingly, something went wrong.
