Due to the Civil War, the South was not what it use to be, so in order to build the South back up, and for the South to become back in the Union, the Reconstruction was formed (Schultz, 2013).While many were not fans of the Reconstruction, there were a few positive outcomes of the Reconstruction. Reader Response The text I selected tells me many things of the successes, failures, challenges, and outcomes of Reconstruction, however, to even begin to understand or comprehend how it does this, one must first know what this source is about. This source is an excerpt from a sermon in New Orleans, that was delivered to the people of the First Presbyterian Church on December 29th, in, ‘the year of our Lord,’ 1860. The sermon was carried out by a man named Benjamin Morgan Palmer, who, based upon the site I viewed this source, was a doctor.…

The three major phases of Reconstruction were Wartime Reconstruction which took place from 1861-1865, Presidential Reconstruction from 1865-1867, and Congressional or Radical Reconstruction which took place between 1867-1877. He worked to insure that the state approved the Thirteenth Amendment and abolish slavery. “On December 8, 1863, he issued a proclamation of amnesty and reconstruction for those areas of the Confederacy occupied by Union armies.” With some exceptions, this proclamation offered forgiveness to Confederates who swore to back the Union and…

I have carefully contemplated and I have come to a conclusion that Reconstruction shouldn’t end. Reconstruction shouldn’t end because the rebellious southern states didn’t fulfil all of the requirements of the Reconstruction Acts of 1867, they didn’t implement, in good faith, the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments, and finally, because of violence, military oversight is still needed.…
