The Albino Forest Short Story
The Albino Forest

The Albino Forest
Jagged cliffs edged down the foreign slope like frozen magma-fied waves. The sky burned charcoal and lightning thrashed desperately to the ground. Beyond the mountains, pale light melted into an ocean of nothingness, except a pale, white glow. The screen flickered and slowly turned black. H2O the robot rolled soundlessly into the lighted base and stopped beside me. “The planet has 63 moons, 5 gas planets, and 3 other existing planets in the Oort Cloud. It is the only planet possible for life. Its gravity is equivalent to Earth’s. But, you will need to wear a spacesuit to enter its atmosphere.” I leaned against the meeting table and became aware of the quiet breath of Alicia behind me. I

I lay flat on my back and groaned. Jeez, these spacesuits are heavy. Ali walked to my side, “See, what did I tell yah, you’d kill yourself alone out there.” She pulled me up to my feet, both of us nearly stumbling. We began walking toward the mountain “Where are we going?”
I asked. There was a pause. Knowing her, she was probably out of breath. There was a sigh, “We’re going up the mountain. If there is life anywhere, it would be where there are resources and minerals.” The view of the mountains got closer. Spikes flew at me like a frozen picture just waiting for someone to come tumbling down on it. Dark caves glistened in the stormy light.
I huffed, “How much further do you think we have to walk?”

“We are,” she said simply.
“How do you know that.” Self-doubt seemed to weigh me down, if the spacesuit were

Alicia leaned over me, laying a cool, wet cloth on my forehead. “Looks like you hit your head pretty good. You were out for almost an hour.” She sat next to me.
I sat up with a groan, dizziness engulfing me. Ali reached to help me lay back down, but I shooed her hands away.
“Sit for a while,” she asked. No, she wasn’t asking, she was ordering, no negotiating.
My vision returned and I stared not at Ali, but behind her. There lay a forest, not any color, but white, just white. I blinked to make sure I was seeing straight. “Is that a..”
She glanced behind her and nodded.
I was so confused, I didn’t even bother to be angry at her for not waking me sooner. “How did we get here?” I asked quietly. I felt calm, almost fascinated.
She smiled as she took the rag and dipped it in a big leaf that was full of water. I realized it wasn’t a rag at all but a piece of strange fuzzy plant.
“Where did you get that?” I asked seriously.
She squeezed water out of the plant, “I got the moss from a tree close to hear. Why?”
“Just curious,” I replied, relaxing a bit. “Say, we should get moving. Where’s East?”
“Yah,” she agreed. But she stood still like she was waiting for

Long ago, in the Appalachian Mountain region, there was Bear. He was the greatest and mightiest of all bears. One morning he woke up to go get some food from the nearby stream when this big thunderstorm made him get lost. Bear ended up far from his home and there were animals he’s never seen before. They were bigger, meaner, and stronger. A rhino came up to him and asked why was he there. Bear told him what happened and the rhino said “Follow me my friend, I will take you back to the mountains.” So Bear started to follow him. He asked the rhino what’s his name and the rhino said, ”Just call me Rhino.”…

Arina sighed and looked down at her own, small feet covered in dirt and grass. "I like the feeling of the forest beneath my feet. It comforts me. And must I remind you Beth I am no lady, just a forest girl. I have no need for shoes."She waved off the scoff from Beth and walked over to the makeshift kitchen and grabbed a beat up cup. "Would you care for some water? It must…

About one hundred years ago the White Mountains didn’t look so well according to the many photographs taken of the mountain sides stripped of all the trees of what was once a virgin forest. A soft whistle from the wind echoed across the barren landscape. The dirt path started extending in every direction on the rocky terrain. The only sign of life to be found was small splotches of green foliage sprouting out of the ground. The heat seemed to be coming at you from every angle. The sun was so bright I did not dare look up. We started walking toward a small rocky hill that was off in the distance. The uneven rocky surface was unpleasant to walk on compared to the flat dirt back on the path. The loose rock was sliding underneath our feet as we climbed higher. We reached the top of the hill to see the emptiness of the landscape continued on for miles. There were many hills like the one we were standing on scattered about. The bright sun highlighted the entire area. It was something I had never experienced before. A place that was void of life and lacked the bright greens of the grass and trees I was used to back home, but was still…

There was a HUGE wave heading right for us.…
