Albert Camus has once defined art as: “A product of the untalented, sold by the unprincipled to the utterly bewildered.” Many people may agree on that abstract art is simple to paint, it has not techniques and it is not representational but how can a paint that represents nothing in particular be so eye-catching to look at? When looking at an abstract painting people see the most freely formed type of artwork an artist can create, which allows many and different interpretations. Although some people may think that abstract art is a talentless display of art, I strongly believe that abstract art requires many techniques and it is as meaningful and valuable as representational art.
Some people may argue that producing an abstract painting does not require techniques. It is said that everybody, even a child, can produce an abstract paint due to it is characterized by distorted shapes, twisted figures and forceful brushstrokes and it is simple to paint. However, it is thought that abstract painting do not have many techniques, abstract artists have to focus on different textures and movements to create the work of art that could represent what they are trying to express or feel. Furthermore, an abstract painter should concentrate on the combination of elements, colors, lines and shapes to construct the painting by representing mental images. Although abstract art lacks of a definable subject, it does not lack of artistic techniques.
There are some who also agree on the idea that abstract art is meaningless and it does not represent anything specific. While representational art has the purpose of representing particular objects or figures, abstract artists oppose to the idea of art only as imitation. Abstract artists do not reveal what they paint, so people need to think and ask themselves: what does this symbolize? Or why do these colors interact with each other?
