evidence showing that the Earth is round. Both the Earth being flat and the cyclops are both myths, which are false beliefs which is how the documentary relates to class. Cyclops are just as real as ghosts and zombies which are nonexistent. As history goes on and these stories are still told throughout our lives, people cant help but wonder and question that maybe these myths are not actually myths but real events. A strength that Mark had that I will admit is that he definitely had some pretty convincing proof that made me ALMOST believe that the earth was flat. He definitely knew how to talk the talk. The Earth was proven to be round by the astronauts that had flown into space many years ago has proven that the Earth is round. Not only did the astronauts prove that the Earth was round but we are so advanced in technology that we don’t even need astronauts anymore to prove that the Earth is round because we have pictures of it for our own eyes to see. This subject came up multiple times in Mark’s talk. The first thing he talked about was the Azimuthal Equidistant projection which is the globe from a bird’s eye view looking down onto the Earth. The north pole is seen in the middle and all the continents surrounding it and Antarctica was on the outer rim of the Earth as seen here. He came up with the theory that when naval officer Richard Byrd traveled to Antarctica and came back and all of the sudden kept quiet about the continent, was convinced that Antarctica was the edge of the Earth and that Byrd was paid by the government to hide such a thing as the edge of the world. Also all of the sudden, Antarctica was off limits to every country until 2041 or something close to that year and they would then renegotiate the continent.
Fine, I’ll give Mark this one because there may be a secret and I am not knowledgeable on the subject but I know for certain that this is not what the globe looks like and Antarctica is at the bottom of the hemisphere. I think he’s assuming here. Another reason that has Mark convinced that the Earth is flat and not round is because a man went and interviewed all the astronauts of Apollo 13 to talk about their adventures that they thought but was instead a trick to get them to swear on the Bible that they did see that the Earth was round. When the astronauts of Apollo 13 were outraged that they were asked to swear on the Bible, the interviewer was very shocked to see such a reaction from them. To Mark that may have meant that the government definitely paid them in some sort and when asked to swear that they didn’t want to lie on God’s word. I think that this is one of Mark’s weaknesses is that he assumes that he knew everything just from the little information thats given in my opinion. Personally no matter if I was lying or telling the truth I would not swear on the Bible. To me, it’s taking God’s name in vain but I think the astronauts were probably mad at the fact that this interviewer was insulting them that they weren't telling the truth about going to the moon
at all. It was a slap in their face. A major flaw that I saw was that I felt like the documentary was very unprofessionally done. Every time there was a break and he was saying the parts like part 3, part 4, and part 5, etc., there was a cartoon voice over of someone saying something about astronauts and the moon and then they were laughing like beeves and butted or something so to me, how can I take Mark seriously and really believe his theory when he’s playing around and making jokes with the pictures and movie references in his slideshow? It’s one thing to reference a movie here and there but he was referencing movies left and right, one after the other. He was sort of contradicting himself because earlier he said that with Hollywood, they make these movies that are made up and some of the props and stage settings they would used wasn’t “politically correct” in a sense but then he would go back and reference all these space movies. In some although he would say what was technically correct and what wasn't but at the same time, how does he even know whats actually right or wrong if Hollywood tends to exaggerate the stories? He was convincing in the beginning but towards the middle and the end he got way too irritating to watch. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless they want to start an argument in the comments section or someone who is majorly into it but I would never watch it again and i wanted to turn it off towards the middle but i stayed strong and finished it.
