The Argument That The Earth Is Flat By Mark
The major theme that is in this documentary is self explanatory which is arguing that the earth is flat. This documentary and our class in my point of view both have a smilier theme. A simple answer is that they both discuss myths. For example in the documentary, Mark discusses that the Earth is flat and tries providing many points of proof and in class we had earlier talked about the Lion Gate in Argolid, Greece. According to Greek mythology, the Lion Gate was built by cyclops because physically it would have been impossible for human men to have raised such heavy stone to create the arch by themselves. A long time ago and still to this day, there is some debate that the Earth may be flat and not round even though there has been plenty of …show more content…

Fine, I’ll give Mark this one because there may be a secret and I am not knowledgeable on the subject but I know for certain that this is not what the globe looks like and Antarctica is at the bottom of the hemisphere. I think he’s assuming here. Another reason that has Mark convinced that the Earth is flat and not round is because a man went and interviewed all the astronauts of Apollo 13 to talk about their adventures that they thought but was instead a trick to get them to swear on the Bible that they did see that the Earth was round.
When the astronauts of Apollo 13 were outraged that they were asked to swear on the Bible, the interviewer was very shocked to see such a reaction from them. To Mark that may have meant that the government definitely paid them in some sort and when asked to swear that they didn’t want to lie on God’s word. I think that this is one of Mark’s weaknesses is that he assumes that he knew everything just from the little information thats given in my opinion. Personally no matter if I was lying or telling the truth I would not swear on the Bible. To me, it’s taking God’s name in vain but I think the astronauts were probably mad at the fact that this interviewer was insulting them that they weren't telling the truth about going to the moon

The Firmament Argument To begin with, it is important to understand what the “firmament” is. Many people believe that, instead of an atmosphere, the earth is fully enclosed by a solid mass. Simply put, according to Howard Bass, the firmament is “something rigid and crystalline that is stretched out”. 16). The syllable of the syllable. This idea is precisely what the article stands for, to justify and defend.…

Christopher Columbus didn’t actually prove that the Earth itself was round. The reason is that because, the time when he traveled across the Atlantic ocean, or sailed to the ocean, there were quite few people who actually thought that it is actually possible to fall thought the edge of the Earth. The myths itself mentioned that the people said there were monsters and boiling water and it is impossible to cross over it, and yet no one did it except for Christopher Columbus. Offensive: Christopher Columbus and the rest of his crew were the reasons of the spreading of diseases, and were introduced syphilis and smallpox to most of the population that were completely devastated by them. Yet, I still thought that this day should turn into Native…

He then compares the very different beliefs of the shape of the earth in the Middle Ages with the ancient Greek ideas. Although the ancient Greeks were more accurate in their thinking, he later brings up the unfortunate fact that the Greek’s ideas were ignored and left out of the bible. This put scientific advancement more than a thousand years behind what it could have been. He continues…

One of the central themes of Flatland pertains to the ignorance of what we cannot see or understand. The author shows several interviews in which the characters cannot comprehend what is unknown to them. When the narrator tries to explain to the king of Pointland and of Lineland, they are both incomprehensive of the thought of a dimension or even a land outside of their own. Then as the Sphere of Spaceland tries to reason with the narrator he could not even imagine a third dimension until he saw it for himself.…

One of the advantages of the documentary format is that unlike a book or article a documentary gives someone a visual image that can help to reinforce what the documentary is talking about. For example if talking about math one could see math problems and solutions which could help them to understand what is being talked about and with a documentary like the one we watched in class we got to actually see the person that was being focused on which plays more to emotions because unlike with reading getting to see an actual person gives a visual image instead of having to form one. We all know facts cannot be changed but opinions can be with the use of visuals that convey emotion. We could see that Manal felt very compelled to wear her headscarf and that without it she felt she was dishonoring her religion and God. One good example of visuals was when she was showing off her room and there was a big yellow Pokemon Pikachu on her bed that would not have been known if there was no visuals. This helps someone to see she is a regular teenage girls who is just trying to live her life that way she thinks is best.…

    Dirt The Movie

I learned some interesting facts while watching this movie. First off, four and half billion years ago Earth was once a fiery ball of molten rock. All activity on earth was volcanic. Rain pounded rock into clay and thus formed the ocean where life began. Microscopic life from the sea mixed with clay to create the first living dirt. However, two million years ago humans changed the life of dirt. Humans use the dirt every day. We use it for our food, we use it for shelter, and we use it to hold and clean our water. It was interesting how natural builders today still use dirt to build houses or use them as some element of a house, such as a floor or wall. Also people in poor countries use the dirt, to make pottery. Dirt is where our crops grow. It is important to each and every one of us in some way.…

The documentary that was assigned for us to watch is all about the beginning of mankind. Not exactly about the evolution of men (ape to human), but how men developed through times and what were the first inventions made by the human beings. It is said that it has been documented for 3 years, and it is such a privilege to be able to watch the episode. For me it was easy to understand. The story is illustrated well by the actors and you could also feel like going back in time together with the people who have been documenting these stories. I think it is educational and must be required in high school to watch the episodes in their world history class. The stories that’d been shown in the first episode are mostly discussed in my world history class during my high school years. With the illustration, it is easier for the students to understand what really happened at that time and it will surely remain in our mind just like a favorite movie that we once watched. The documentary started from when we were cavemen. We wandered around, looked for place to live and basic needs to survive. We can see from just that scene that men were created intelligent. And from the discovery of fire, our developments as being a human have started. I actually started watching from the part where a woman discovers farming. If she didn’t discover the ways of farming, we wouldn’t be able to develop even greater inventions like we have in the present. The documentary explained that this was one of the biggest factor in the history; not only positively but negatively, It has also became the cause of crimes and wars. In the documentary, we could conclude that people are natural warriors. To be able to survive from what we think is a threat; we would fight with the other group of men or tribe. We will protect what we think is ours and to conquer others when we think they got more than what we have. Through the years, the…
