This film was very interesting and helpful because in my earth science class I am giving a group presentation of Hydro-fracking, and although I discovered in my research how harmful it can be, seeing personal accounts of it gave me a better feel on the subject. I think we need to come up with a better way to get natural gas out rock because injecting chemical fluid into the ground is too risky pertaining to our water supply. After all, we need water to survive. I agree that it is a problem that we are depending on what one legislature calls "foreign oil and terrorism," but I would rather keep depending on these resources then polluting our water supply and turning American land into nasty dumps. From this film and the group project I participated in for class, I have learned that our water can be easily contaminated. Fracking needs to be a careful process that should be done nowhere near major water sources are located.…
The intriguing movie Mud is about a man who is wanted in the state of Arkansas for murder. Mud lives on an island by himself in a boat to avoid being detected by the police. Ellis, a fourteen year old boy, goes to this island with his friend Neckbone and runs into Mud a few times. They decide to help Mud reach out to Juniper, the girl he is in love with, so they can leave Arkansas. However, they have to be very discreet with their assistance. Not only are the police looking for Mud, a bounty hunter named Carver is looking for him as well. Carver and his gang want to find Mud to avenge his brother’s death. Even though Ellis and Neckbone are aware of the situation, they still decide to help Mud. One thematic message told in this movie is that…
Douglas view on dirt is correct. Dirt is disorder or objects out of place. We do have a set of ideas of the way things should be ordered. An example of this would be when people wash their hands. When someone finishes using the bathroom they wash their hands at the sink. They will use soap on their hands while washing them. If they are the only person in the bathroom they will still wash their hands even though they are the only person in the room. Nobody would be able to tell if they didn’t wash their hands because they are in the bathroom all alone. We wash our hands no matter what because it is in our set of ideas of the way things should be. The germs do not belong on our hands. If we don’t wash our hands then the germs will be out of place.…
Does our society truly understand how important our trees are, and do we have any idea of how bad off we will be once they are gone? How close to complete deforestation are we with the world’s population increasingly on the rise, and why market this film to children instead of making a public announcement of the severity of the issue? The film showed the quality of air being controlled by the mayor, which is the same in our world; the government controls what goes and what does not. So why not put a stop to it? Just as it was in the movie is the same in out reality it is all about the all mighty dollar. To produce a movie of this caliber and to make it geared toward children is kind of mind twisting. Is this just a really good movie or does it have a hidden agenda? I would like to believe that we now realize just how much we have done to the earth and it is too late for us to fix, so we inform our children and put it in their hands. It is believed that behavior is learned, so unless we teach our children about the importance of our trees and recycling the human race could become extinct.…
How did life on earth begin? On one had we have religious people who think that a higher power created the universe and others believe that god was not part of the equation, which is causing a big outrage amongst different groups. In fact, it is to the point where people questioning “god” as a creator are being persecuted. The original theory of, which is based on Darwinism, believes that mankind evolved from apes, monkeys, and cells. However, the theory does not specifically explain how life began, how the cell evolved and got to where it is today. Overall, this theory contained many gaps, and this movie was in essence demonstrating, how intelligence design is trying to fill in those missing link but the movie is not trying to show that the ID theory is finally going to answer those missing, in fact the theory might me completely non-sense. However, it is an effort to answer some missing questions. The move illustrates how the American culture feels intruded by the idea that there only “may be” a creator. The film makers are trying to emphasize the fact that there has been a major violation of the first amendment, by interviewing scientists who have been expelled from their jobs, denied grants for research, because they were questioning the lack of information and limits of Darwinism. Overall, the comparison of Darwinism and Hitler indicates that our society is not progressing and that this narrow view of evolution is keeping us from improving.…
Soil is the uppermost layer of the Earth and supports life on earth. Soil is composed of four parts: mineral particles, organic matter, water, and air. Soil is very important to the environment because various organisms depend on soil for life and "supports virtually all terrestrial food webs" (Berg, 2013).…
There are many things that we have talked about that went on in this movie. The things that happened were electrical energy thermal energy and mechanical energy, friction occurred and fluids were split. These things can all happen in everyday life. Some examples would be if you are driving, friction occurs. When you spill something a fluid is split. When you plug something in thermal energy occurs. If you use a phone than mechanical energy occurs. We learned that no matter what forms of energy are happening all around…
We need trees to be able to breath. Without clean oxygen we ain't going to be able to survive.…
The movie first focused on the creation of the moon. Around 4.6 billion years ago our Earth which was at that time around 70 million years old did not really have moon, but due to a collision that happened there came to the existence the moon which we are witnessing at present times. At this point in Earth's early history, a rogue planet, larger than Mars collided catastrophically with enormous speed and pressure with the Earth, throwing many trillions of tons of magma and rock into Earth's orbit, which then cooled and condensed to become the Moon. It took about one and a half day for the moon to form. The…
Although the movie seemed to stretch the scientific "evidence" to match their viewpoint, a few enlightening points were made that will affect my own sense of self-awareness and ultimately how I interact with and motivate people. Perhaps the most basic concept the movie tried to convey was the idea that human thought and emotion are actually only a self-serving perception of some "true reality."…
Compared with oriental people’s implicit quest for freedom and truth, people in western countries are more direct which means that they pursue their goals through practice. The book, Into the Wild, tells a story about a guy who had a philosophical journey. The book shows a process of a person’s spiritual growth: from the yearning for the absolute freedom, a kind of irrepressible impulse and force, to the yearning for the happiness. Maybe, at beginning, what Chris McCandless pursuing was the happiness, but he hadn’t realized it yet. But finally, he realized it.…
thI found this movie to be disturbing to watch at some points, but it was mainly sad most of the time. It was one the most powerful movies I have ever seen! In my opinion, I find it horrific for the parents of these widows to even accept the fact of basically giving up their young daughters to men much older than them. I also feel that it was a very cruel lifestyle these widows had lived. Just because their husband had passed away doesn't mean they have to live in such misery for the rest of their lives. Doesn't it seem impossible to believe that some of the things in this movie could have actually happened in real life? and that stuff like this is still going on today? There are widows still living in similar circumstances right now and things in the United States that relate to this situation such as, segregation and slavery. Having to see what these women had gone through all these years, makes us think of how lucky we actually are and how we take the goodness we have for granted. The struggles some of us may have now does not compare to the struggles the women in this video have gone through. It sure made me think twice about things. The symbolism of water in this movie was incredible though. Symbolism of water through out the film was rain and rivers as well as drinking water,to purify the characters and wash away negativities that they had lived through. This movie did help me learn much more about…
soils won’t degrade and chemicals won’t wash up into our water supplies. If growing food…
Similarly, littering also has a positive effect on the soil. According to Bill Nye the Science Guy, “it’s good to litter so the trash can decompose and turn into good, rich soil.” The plants then suck in the good nutrients it gets from our garbage, and helps the plants grow. Then, the plants are harvested and put on our plates for dinner. Just another fascinating way human’s littering ends up in our daily lives.…
The movie’s plot started from the idea that another world exists deep inside of the earth with a variety of unusual creatures. It showed the director’s extensive imagination and creativity. I was preoccupied with the movie while watching it. It was really entertaining, with a lot of incredible and amazing things that made me forget my day-to-day stress.…
