The Association of Southeast Asia was born by five leaders; the Foreign Ministers of Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand in Bangkok on 8 August 1967. Brunei Darussalam then joined on 7 January 1984, Viet Nam on 28 July 1995, Lao PDR and Myanmar on 23 July 1997, and Cambodia on 30 April 1999. The aims and purposes of ASEAN are to provide assistance each other in the economic, social, cultural, technical, educational and other fields. It is the greatest strength that these ASEAN countries work together. Most citizens and I can’t follow the changes in Myanmar economic opening and political reforms because that had been cut off from us for over 60 years. Luckily our president and some business company make some changes to be flexible with these. By the chance, our president U Thein Sein becomes the ASEAN chairmanship in this year 2014. This brings back our country Myanmar which has been isolated country for over 60 years to international community.
As we already know that our country Myanmar is rich in natural resources and border of Thai, China, Laos, Bangladesh. And ASEAN free trade area and free tax or low taxes are all available in ASEAN countries. So, there is no doubt that not only ASEAN members but also international investor has garnered and press attention on Myanmar. Being the ASEAN member, the more or the less it can bring us challenges, risks, favorable, advantages and disadvantages to me and citizens.
First all of, being an ASEAN member there will be tangible effect on my life and citizens of Myanmar, such as improved access to electricity, land law reform, better public transport, cheaper telecommunications and lower informal fees of the kind that block access to health and education services. It is a good chance for improving our educational needs in Thailand in order to exchange and learn about different culture. Furthermore we don’t need to leave our country for oversea studying.
Although our
