Twig, Craig, and Luke are staples of all the short stories, meaning they are in all of the stories. This is also proved on the page before the Table of Contents where it is printed, “To Twig, Craig and Luke”. In addition to these characters some are included, for example, in the second story more characters than Twig, Craig, and Luke are present. With that being said, they do differ from each other. In “The Screech Owl Who Loves Television” the vibe being given by the setting is more relaxed and normal unlike the second story. “The Bat in the Refrigerator” there is a sense of necessity for an answer. Also, the setting is more tense due to Sonar’s unpredictable behaviour. These two stories are very different when it comes to the mood being given by the setting.
Conflict in both of these stories revolves around the animals and their safety. For example, in the story about the screech owl the kids are conflicted about whether or not they should release Yammer out into the wild. In contrast, the second story about Sonar the bat, is a little different, The conflict in the story mostly revolves around finding a compromise for Sonar since she awoke earlier than meant to.
