The Breedlove’s embark upon life’s reality where they lived in Ohio. Cholly maintain a job and Pauline continue her life by playing house, but that wasn’t enough to keep her busy. She became bored since it wasn’t much for her to do and keep her preoccupied so she turn to the person she knew best her husband. Cholly began resisting Pauline Company after a while and he found other things to occupy his mind and she went on to get a job. Nonetheless, Pauline had to job their marriage started growing apart simple because their financial situation was heading into a different direction. For Pauline, it was more on clothes and makeup even though she didn’t care for it that much but, Cholly turn to alcohol. Pauline on the other hand took on a fulltime job doing what she does best housekeeping. She eventually had to quit her job because Cholly came by her job drunk and was asking for money so the lady told her to choose either she left Cholly and keep her job but, that wouldn’t looked right on Pauline side to choose a white woman over her husband. Pauline wanted to keep the job but the woman would pay her unless she had left her husband. The lady assure Pauline by stating “All right, she. ‘ You leave him, and then come back to work, and we’ll let bygones be bygones,” pg. (121). Soon after quitting her job, Pauline found out she was expecting a new bundle
of joy and Cholly was pleased. Once again Pauline returns to a house that would lead her upon searching for a new adventure. Even though she had gotten Cholly’s attention of a carrying a baby she turn her attention into the movies where she became obsesses with beauty. To overcome her own insecurities, the movie was away for Pauline to escape and sought comfort. “She was never able, after her education in the movies to look at a face and not assign it to some category in the scale of absolute beauty, and the scale was one she absorbed in full from the silver screen.” Pg. (122). Pauline had a longing for the things that took her away in the movies, which would go on to affect her life, and the lives of her family until it would destroy them, but primarily her young daughter Pecola. On the behalf of a woman, in order for a man to be successful in their marriage and family life, they first have to protect and provide for them. Being a good protector, and provider, leader and a teacher is a privilege that comes with the responsibilities that Cholly lacks as a man. Mrs. Breedlove had become the sole breadwinner in her family in which she had despised her husband ways on life. She driven fear into them because she didn’t want them to gear their lives into their father’s foot step. “Into her son she beat a loud desire to run way, and into her daughter she beat a fear of growing, fear of other people, fear of life.”
