From what little I’ve acknowledge of the piece is that it’s an ancient manuscript that comprises the four gospels, an account that describes life, death and resurrection of Jesus, and that’s about all I’ve ever known since the mentioning of the piece in my life. What intrigues me so much about this piece is that background story of it, and how valuable it is to its culture.

The Book of Kells is a lavish bible filled with intricate artwork that was created in 800 CE. Around 1,200 years later an animated movie describing the story behind the creation of the Book of Kells, called The Secret of Kells, was created. Even though the Book of Kells and The Secret of Kells were created 1,200 years apart, the original manuscript influenced the creators and animators of the movie.…

If you think about it, the spread and development of ideas and beliefs can root all the way back to the creation of the printing press. Of course, there is some credit to be given to the Chinese and their creation of the woodblock printing that came before Johannes Gutenberg’s time. But, it was not as influential as the printing press. We have to stop for a moment and ask, “What led to the creation of the printing press?” and how did it become such a key “weapon” in the Protestant and Counter Reformation? In this essay I’ll be discussing the printing press and it’s impact on society and many different categories including: the transition from scripts to the printing culture,…

After a brief intermission, a complete Symphony No.5 was going to show. The composition opened with a loud sound of bass. After the declining of the bass, the trumpets and clarinets joined in. The first movement repeated the theme a few times continuing to reinforce the motif of fate. Different instruments in different pitches repeated some sequences. The intense melody represents the composer’s depressed mood and fleeting happiness dream after three months of marriage, revealing a conflict between individual longing for happiness and the fate of severe reality.…

There’s a real Book of Kells — a 9th-century version of the New Testament renowned for its brilliant ornamentation, it’s considered Ireland’s national treasure — but it probably wasn’t created this way. The monks in “The Secret of Kells’’ are a consciously international lot and drawn by Tomm Moore with geometric glee: a big, domelike African, a toadstool-size Asian, a spherical Italian. The Abbott is a rectangular figure of authority, all corners, no curves. Brendan, blessedly, is a kid, although the lines of medieval il lustration lift his face into a smile.…
