The Café Fortune Teller By Mary Hoover Aiken
They say that pictures say a million words. This painting called the Café Fortune Teller by Mary Hoover Aiken on page 170 in the 12th edition. The painting is about a woman centered and has some playing cards on table. She is in a cafe where she is alone surrounded by many men.The painting is painted on a Black and White colors which makes me think it’s very old painting done many years ago. The woman seems very calm and concentrated on the cards she chooses to place them in a pile. The painting is so significant to the artist because it is a self-portrait of her. The men in the painting look busy are and are being occupied by their activities. There are different range of age depicted this painting from young adults to some middle aged man. …show more content…
The men around her indicate that she is the only woman in the cafe. The painting suggests that this was painted during the time of meal. A man behind her watches her cautiously as she is about to place a card in her rows of cards. The painting looks to be done in a way that people can use that painting to tell different stories about it. This woman in the center seems to be drawing some attention from the men in cafe. The table looks cluttered with cards placed around and the woman seems least bothered about keeping the table clean from the mess. The strange thing that is in the painting has cards that are kings and queens more than others cards from a standard deck of …show more content…
The painting was done with good setting on the back to show she was able to draw a self-portrait of herself in a café busy with many people around her. The people in her background are mostly men and are surprised to see a woman sitting a place surrounded by men. The woman is showing her way to show that she is a fortune teller. She is very concerned about each card she chooses picks to place on the pile. The painting is the best ways for the artist to show a self-portrait of her and to show the impact it add on her around the surrounding. The painting serves as way to show that she herself was a fortune
