The Center For Community Outreach (CCO)
.. was a great way to introduce the various groups that are available to students on campus. The Center for Community Outreach (CCO) includes programs to get students involved in the community through volunteering and educating others about today’s issues. An aspect of college that I have found exciting is the school pride. I expected to see everyone on campus focused on whatever it is their goal is at Polk State but I was pleasantly surprised when I saw how amped up everyone got when there was a school function like club rush, spirit week, or even a basketball game. This small campus had me fooled that no one would care or bat an eye at school related activities but it seems like thats what this school thrives on, it reminds me of the same type of camaraderie you would find at FSU on a football game-day. Club rush and spirit week were the two things that got me the most excited about being a student at Polk State, not only were they bringing all the students together to mingle and make new friendships but it was fun.…

This summer will fly by and before we know it, our 2013-2014 school year will knock on the door and expect us to be prepared. In order to not be caught off guard, we should be ready for what the new year will hold out to us. An idea for next school year could be that we make the meetings more entertaining. Incoming freshmen will be curious as to what Key Club really is, and are more likely to join if they’re having fun while volunteering. Also, more social events should be planned such as a sport tournament or maybe even a night out playing laser-tag or meeting at a bowling alley.…

I came here to the United States to further my educational goals. I had always dreamed about becoming a helpful person not only for my family but also for my community since I was a little kid. I have always thought that I am extremely lucky to be given the opportunity to study abroad; hence, I try to make the most of my time here which is spent doing volunteer work. A program in which I spend most of my time volunteering is called Community Emergency Assistance Program (CEAP) that supports those who are not fortunate enough to go to school, or have a place to live. CEAP does not only give me valuable pieces of knowledge and experiences but also helps me understand that there are many people who are still suffering greatly and are desperately in need of our help.…
