When change happens we have to adapt. In the middle of the book granny dies. “She thought about her grandma who had a long cheerful life, she she cried and fell asleep. A big change in Lina’s life was this tragedy and she had to learn to except the fact that she’s gone. At the beginning of the book it said
“ grown people did there work and younger people until they reach the age of 12” in the city of ember kids get there first job when there 12 years old.
In hard times you have to try and find hope. In the beginning of the book Doon and Lina trade jobs. “Trade jobs, i don’t want to waste my time being a messenger. I want to help save the city.” Doon heard about the generator and always wanted be the pipeworks laborer. In the end of the book they said “ the lights turned back on!” in this moment Doon and Lina thought this would bring hope to the city.
The story show’s us a lot of things that can help us when we’re older. Jeanne DuPrau did a really good job of making the characters seem realistic for this kind of a story. I think she’s trying to tell us that we should be doing more to help our communities just like Doon and Lina. this story is helping and teaching younger readers a lot of life lessons.
The two themes in the story are when change happens we have to adapt and in hard time we have to try and find hope. Doon and Lina have done a lot of thing that they could never even imagine themselves doing or anyone else. They also go through so much change. Change is something everyone goes through it may not always be a good thing but we have to get through it.
