The Conservative Party in Britain
Conservative Party in Britain After analyzing some of the major policies of the parties of the UK, the one that I, as a college student, can identify with the most are those of the Conservative Party. I have always believed that education is the key to a successful nation, and lack of education results in numerous problems for a nation. Therefore, a party that enforces education and aims for the success of hardworking people is indeed, the one that represents my ideals (Roskin). At the same time, the Conservative Party is also interested in reducing taxes, stabilizing the economy by reducing budget deficit, increasing private sector jobs, reducing the tariffs that most energy companies have placed upon citizens under the past Labour Party, and decreasing crime rates. Most importantly, I agree with the Conservative party in the UK because it is focused on defining issues such as the economy, instead of investing their time on other issues such as gay marriage and abortion (class notes). These two issues are certainly important, but they should not be on the top of a party’s agenda, especially when the economy is the driving force of any nation. One of the policies that stood out to me the most was regarding education. The Conservative Party believes in making education mandatory for all individuals under 25. Under the Labour Party’s welfare system it was made possible to leave school and live under life benefits. This situation created what Conservatives refer to as a “something-for-nothing-culture,” where excessive government funds are placed on individuals who are not investing in society in any meaningful way (BBC UK). Under the Conservative Party’s policy, it is necessary to fulfill certain requirements in order to receive benefits. One example of these requirements includes community service, and attending a job center on a daily basis to make sure that one is actually searching for a job (Conservative Party Website). As an individual who works and pays
