The increasing amount of modern technologies we have in the U.S. have greatly changed the way law enforcement agents operate on the field today. According to Edwards (2015), “Computers are used to hold databases of information, to run sophisticated software that can recognize faces or identify fingerprints and to connect to the Web, an avenue for communication and a rich source of intelligence.” As you can see, computer technologies are essential in the criminal justice system.

In the 1900s when policing was created they had to face many issues to make sure that they handle lowering crime rates. Those were desperate times for policemen in a hostile country with unpaved streets and uneven sidewalks, sometimes miles from the police station, with little prospects of assistance in case of need. It took nerve to be a policeman in those days. The first use of technology in policing was cars, radios, computers, and firearms. If it were not for the creation of technology in 1900s police departments would have a very hard time to stop all the crimes that were being created. So in 1960 the Crime Commission was established. Today in the 21st Century there are many new kinds of technology used in policing and one is being created for the “future cops” which decreases the dangerous high-speed chases with criminals is the StarChase System. The StarChase system is a laser guided GPS tracking system that is launched from the front grill of the squad car and guided by a laser-light. The police departments would find ways on how to prevent and solve crimes with the use of technology. Only in recent years have many agencies found the use of information technologies significantly helpful. Some examples of these technology uses include fingerprinting databases, computerized crime mapping, and records management systems doing everything from inventorying property and cataloging evidence to calculating solvability factors. Police Agencies in modern society are a part of the American fabric to serve and protect the American public. The United States currently…

The criminal justice system was made to enforce the laws in this country. There are different laws in each state but they all follow federal laws too. There are three main components of the criminal justice system which are law enforcement, courts, and corrections. Law enforcement is there to make sure the laws are not broken and they are responsible for bringing in anyone that breaks the law. They also make charges against those who break the law and make sure the cases are strong enough to hold up in court. Law enforcement is made up of police officers and detectives. The courts are there to make sure the defendant is given a fair trial and they carry out the sentencing. The court is made up of lawyers, judges, and juries each does a specific job during a court hearing. Mainly the judge is the one who gives the sentence but the jury also gives their opinion on the case. Corrections are there to administer the sentence given to the person by the judge. They make sure that their punishment for the crimes committed is carried out. Corrections are made up of correctional officers, parole officers, and probation officers. The government is also divide up into three branches which are the legislative branch, judicial branch, and executive branch. They each have their own job just like the criminal justice system. The legislative branch is in charge of making laws and changing already existing laws if they see it necessary. The judicial branch carries out the laws made by the legislative branch and also hears cases that challenge those laws. The executive branch enforces the laws that are passed. Both the government and the criminal justice system have to do with making sure laws are carried out and have a similar set…
