Knowing the characters are very different having to see some good is very challenging. Abigail which is Paris’s daughter is very tempered and lyes and tries to get away with lying. If Abby gets accused of her witchcraft behavior she’ll be hung. Rebecca nurse is nothing like abby she's true to who she is and believes in god and is trusting. Having so many characters have different behaviors makes for a challenging play thought to have violence and possibly death involved. Abby says, “‘But we never conjured spirits’” which is ironic since they were dancing in the forest naked (Miller 463). In The Crucible the entire story they are trying to figure out if the people were convicted of witchcraft. Mrs. Puttnam …show more content…
said, “‘I’d not call it sick; the Devil’s touch is heavier than sick’” meaning that as the girls are dancing around the fire they are having the devil inside them (Miller 465). As Paris and many others are convinced there is no witchcraft around they are soon going to find out there is a lot of witchery acts.
So far witches seem pretty common in this era of time and setting.
When reading The Crucible you come across many thoughts as to why they have God and the devil brought into the works of witches having bad behavior. This story falls under a lot of abuse of power in which the witches think they have more power as to God and the devil. Knowing anyone is bound for danger in this play having people freak out and even lie isn't probably the best situation to be in. Having the devil seem to be in Abigail isn't what exactly we picture being the happiest person in the play. When Mary Warren says, “‘Abby, we’ve got to tell. Witchery’s a hanging error, a hangin’ like they done in Boston two year ago’” meaning for Abby’s bad behavior they'll be punishments for her consequences (Miller
467).
Abbys misbehavior is only bond to get her into more trouble than she already is in. Abby tries to flirt with Proctor but he denies it every time knowing he has to be loyal to his wife. This fits into group think where abby tries to fit in like the other girls but does this in a weird way in which she flirts with an already married man. Proctor said “‘Abby, you'll put it out of mind. I’ll not be coming’ for you more (Miller 469)
