The Crucible Short Summary

The Crucible is about this group of teenage girls caught conjuring spirits , dancing naked and and making potions in the woods. Reverend Parris finds them. Ruth Putman is trying to talk too the spirits of her dead siblings too find out why they died , at the request of her mother. Abby Williams is trying to make a potion to kill Elizabeth, John Proctors wife, because Abby had an affair with John and now wants to have him to herself. Tituba ,is who Ruth goes to about speaking to her siblings. After the girls are caught in the woods Betty , Reverend Parris’ daughter, and Ruth fall ill. The doctors are called and a cause cannot be determined , so Reverend Hale , a specialist on unnatural and demonic work is called in. Abby and Mrs. Putnam confess
While she’s there she makes Goody Proctor a poppet , and leaves a needle in its belly. Abby sees this , goes home and sticks a needle in her own belly and claims Goody Proctor sent her spirit out to kill her. John and Elizabeth fight about his affair with Abby , and then Elizabeth is arrested. John tells Mary they will go to court and tell him the children are faking. They go to the court , John finds out Elizabeth is pregnant. Mary and the girls turn against each other but after the girls then accuse Mary of witchcraft , Mary turns back to the girls and accuses John of being a Wizard. John claims innocence and is sentenced to hang. 3 months pass , it is the morning John and 7 others will be hanged after 12 have already died for the same crime. Reverend Hale pleads with him and the others to confess even tho he know they’re innocent because he no longer believes in the court. Abby has run off with Mercy Lewis , one of the girls who was in the woods. The have Elizabeth talk to john to try to get him to confess , at first he agrees but then takes his confession back to save his name , the only thing he has left now.
