Is the incorporation of technology having a negative impact on Education?
Technology is helping and improving many aspects of life but there is one aspect in which it is causing more damages than benefits. This aspect is education, the use of technology devices in the classroom can be dangerous for students at different levels because of three main reasons: costs of acquiring technology, differences in social class and loss of handwriting. First of all, the access to these new technologies is really expensive, schools and universities are forced to get electronic gadgets, audio visual tools and also computers for all the classrooms from school through university. Also it is essential to have access to internet for the use of these personal devices, so is another cost we have to take into account. Apart from that, the use of these technologies in the classroom requires training. For instance, teachers and students have to learn how to use them and that can be a waste of money and time as well. Another reason are the differences in social class that are caused by the institutions which can not get this technologies. The incorporation of technology makes a big difference between those students who have access to it and those who do not. So, if a student graduates from high school without at least a rudimentary and working knowledge of new technologies, their future starts looking not as bright as those who does. Also, this difference may cause an inequality of employment opportunities in the future. Nowadays jobs require specific technological skills and those students who had not have those skills in the past will not get a good job in the future. Last but not least, the loss of handwriting is another danger that comes with technology. Students which are accustomed to use computers tend to make lots of mistakes when they are writing by hand.
