The Difference Between Fear and Respect
What is the difference between fear and respect? When you respect someone it’s mistaken for fear. But today we are going to learn the true meaning of these two words.

First, we are going to try to find out was these words mean. The word respect means you admire that person’s quality or ability, according to Dictionary.com. For example if you respect someone, like a parent’s decisions then you respect the decision they made. Kids are supposed to respect their parents. We should show respect because first the Bible says we should show respect to others and God. Matthew 7:12 says “So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.” Another scripture says “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.” Exodus 20:12

Now we will learn the meaning of fear. According to Dictionary.com, fear means that you’re scared or reverence and awe towards God, which means you fear God. As human beings, we shouldn’t fear other humans but we should fear God because of all the power He has in His hands. Another scripture says; For the Lord is great and greatly to be praised; He is also to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the peoples are idols, But the Lord made the heavens 1 Chronicles 16:25-26.

Last but not least, I am now going to explain what the differences are of these two words. Respect is showing honor, admire, and are obedient to your parent for example. Fear is showing reverence and awe to God. You bow down before God. The difference between these two is that you don’t fear a human that you respect. You only fear and honor God. They are alike by somewhat having the same meaning. As you can see, there are quite a bit of differences between fear and respect. But if you learn the true differences between these two, then you will learn the real

Fear often becomes our worst enemy when it makes you become irrational and stops you from thinking clearly. First of all, fear can make us become overly cautious, to the point where it causes harm. In Nadine Gordimer’s novel “Once Upon a Time” a family builds a barbed wire wall because they are so afraid of the robberies and the boy decides to explore the fence and dies from being shredded by the wire “(the boy) dragged a ladder to the wall, the shining coiled tunnel...with the first fixing of its razor-teeth in his knees and hands and head he… struggled deeper into its tangle.” (Gordimer, 6 ). The family built the fence to protect themselves but it only ended up hurting them. The family’s fear ended up destroying them. Throughout my life,…

From past experiences I have learned the real meaning of respect. This word is more powerful than one can imagine. With respect comes unselfishness. When people respect others, they are treated equally. My mother and father always told me to be tactful in the way I treated others, so I would also be respected. It has worked in the past and will always hold true in the future. If someone respects another with proper judgment, people feel good inside which gives them a sense of integrity. When I give respect and witness how it makes others feel, I feel like more of a person. I feel proud. Honored.…

If such a horrible situation should occur, not only would his own creator suffer but all of mankind as well. He was also fearful that she as well might turn with disgust from him to the superior beauty of man. If she might leave him, he will once again remain unaccompanied and exasperated by the fresh provocation of being deserted by one of his own species. Another example of fear would be the time when the monster rescued the little girl from the streaming water. As everyone would imagine, there should be a positive outcome of such nice gesture. However, this did not occur. As soon as the person whom the little girl was playing with saw the monster, he immediately darted towards him, took the girl from his arms, fled into the woods, took a gun and fired it at him. The man immediately feared the monster as soon as he saw him. His conscious mind instantly controlled him and ordered him to act violently. The person did not stop and think. He did not appreciate the monster’s bravery and daring act. The monster felt at this point hatred towards mankind. If his nice gesture did not build a connection between him and the humans, nothing would. Fear is installed in all of us. Different people fear different things. For example some are scared of heights and several can be terrified of scary movies. Once humans fear something, they lose…

Barry Glassner gives several different constructions on how we can transform, exaggerate, and invent fears. Fear is defined as a feeling of agitation and anxiety caused by present or imminent danger. But Barry Glassner defines it as constructed through efforts to protect against it. Society as a whole uses fear to profit financially, politically, or media driven by journalist. These three profits show how transforming, exaggerating, and inventing fear has shaped society.…

Emigrating here from a different country you would think that respect is definitely an aspect that remains the same throughout the whole world, but not necessarily so. Respect in the United States is virtually nonexistent, particularly the respect that children have towards their parents. That’s something I really can’t wrap my head around, coming from a southeast Asian country. Respect is something that us foreign kids are taught at a very young age, unlike here. Here it seems like even seniors in high school don’t know a single thing about respect whatsoever.…

The Book of Proverbs 3:25-26 states the promise of God clearly that we “do not be afraid of sudden terror or of the ruin of the wicked, when it comes, for the LORD will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught.” This assurance of salvation is deeply rooted in his covenantal love which he is willing to adopt us as his own children . Ed Welch said it well in his book “Running Scared” that God is our father, and the power of fear could only push us closer to him . Fear could never take us away from…

There are many reasons why I disagree with Machiavelli. First of all, it is better to be loved than feared. Sometimes being feared will help someone get what they want, but with fear, feelings of resentment and hate can be found. It will also nurture subversive thoughts of revenge and other malicious intent. Just like in the TV show Gossip Girl, the main characters Blair and Sarina go back and forth seeking revenge over each other because one has more than the other. They are always in a constant battle against each other. Fear must be used in a tightly controlled and insistent fashion or it will fail. To be loved, however, nurtures caring, loyalty, kindness, and other positive binding and giving emotions. It can spawn jealousy in some, but overall it is a much better relationship to have with other people. Fear can cause people to retaliate and eventually disappear. In the article, “Leadership and the Fear Factor”, the authors state “Emotions like love and fear, trust and mistrust, can play a significant role in whether a leader gains followers.” This concludes that typically leaders or anyone in the society gain followers by having trust and love. On a more of personal relationship, I would rather be loved, because to have everyone show fear towards each other, would mean you have no intimate relations with anyone and that is not true living. Franklin P. Jones once said, “Love doesn’t make the world go round. Love is what makes the ride worthwhile.” It is the most powerful feeling to feel loved. I…
