In the Book of Proverbs 9:10, it states that “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight”. Thought fear is “at the heart of all anxiety states” according to David A. Clark and Aaron T. Beck , yet the above scripture reference shows us that not all fears cause anxiety. In fact, fear does not always cause psychological disorder, but rather it is the object of fear that determines the outcome. The fear of the Lord gives us peace and spiritual prosperity , and it safeguards our heart from falling into GAD. Following the same line of thought, we do not reject fear, and even to some extent we think fear is good, as it keeps us to stay inside the covenant promise of God.

Unlike relativism that denies the incompetence of common grace and binds it together with the effect of sin, the scripture ensures the counselee that there exists real cure to GAD in the absolute sovereign God. The biblical fear of God does not only redirect the object of our fear from the creation of God to God himself, but it also gives us a whole new paradigm that is grounded in love . The Book of Proverbs 3:25-26 states the promise of God clearly that we “do not be afraid of sudden terror or of the ruin of the wicked, when it comes, for the LORD will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught.” This assurance of salvation is deeply rooted in his covenantal love which he is willing to adopt us as his own children .
