The biggest problem is with the business Alpha Natural Resources. At one point this business was very successful, but over time they have fell due to other companies’ competition.
Unfortunately for West Virginia, they have it worst because many coal companies were located in their state and many mines were scheduled
to be cleaned up. Due to this the state hired attorney Kevin W. Barrett. His ultimate goal was to ensure that the coal companies cleaned up their mess when they were finished.
The Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act of 1977 made sure that the coal industries put aside money to purchase bonds. In the past many regulators let businesses pass the act by simply just saying that they were going to do that. Personally, I totally disagree with the coal companies. There are many factors contributing to the loss of the environment, but coal mining shouldn’t be. Yes, the coal is an important resource that we need to survive, although there are different ways we could approach the situation. If they have the money to tear down the environment, then they should have the money to fix it back. It is hard to fix the problems of global warming, but you can easily plant trees back after you tear them down.
