The Fish-Personal Narrative

During hot and muggy evening in August, I had just casted out my lure into the pond. I waited a few moments for something to strike. Out of nowhere, it felt like a freight train had hit my line. I was nervous and anxious, for I knew I have never had a fish this huge on the other end of my pole. The line was tight and quickly swaying through the water. My heart began to race, I could feel it in my ears. I reeled faster and faster, but the fish fought harder and harder. I knew that my line couldn’t take it much more, and I absolutely could not lose this fish. I had been sweating bullets for hours with nothing to show for it. I couldn’t let this opportunity pass me by. My pole was bent nearly to 90 degrees. I felt a sudden release of tension. My heart fell, I hoped that it wasn’t true, that maybe the fish had just given up fighting. I reel in, with much less hope than moments before. Just taking a few minutes to tie another knot, taking the time to go the ‘extra mile’, could’ve completely changed the outcome. Just like taking the time to go and look over that one question on a test could’ve been the difference between pass or fail. Or that one extra second to look before crossing the road could be the difference between life and death. While loosing a fish isn’t a big deal in the grand scheme of things, failing a big test or getting hit by a car are pretty indisputably important. While I still do with I could’ve caught that fish, I believe it taught me an important lesson. Sometimes you need to do more than expected, and it will always pay off in the long run. You won’t hurt anybody but yourself if you just make every effort you can. I suppose it also taught me that hey, you win some and you lose some (while this loss could have been avoided, it taught me the lesson nevertheless), and you can’t be too upset when you
