"How to Save a Life" by The Fray is a song that recalls an important moment in my development when I was eleven years old. As a young immigrant to the country, I did not have many friends who I was acquainted with. School became a big part of my life when I was in fifth grade. My mother walked me and my brother who was in first grade to school every day. Time in the morning usually went by quickly while I was in the company of my family. On the way to the school, people would rush to get to where they needed to be. Some people were looking at their watch anxiously and were rushing to get to the bus or subway. While others, like my mother were hurtling their children who were still talking to their friends to school. It never occurred to me that the long way to school could become a struggle for me in the future. The transition into Middle School was not only a new phase that I was trying to overcome, but it also created a burden for my mother. She had to take her two kids to two different school which located at the opposite locations. That is when I decided to travel to school by myself. I saw the disappointment in my mother's eye. A seed of resentment had grown in my heart about the relationships between me and my friends.
