The Freshman Pledge
The Freshman Pledge Rushing day is coming up, all the sororities are recruiting freshman to join them. Girls’ minds are filled with the rumors they have heard and the things on T.V., who wouldn’t want to be in one? But what most rushing freshman don’t know is that sororities are not as crazy as they seem. One does not just simply join a sorority, they are recruited. Recruitment is the biggest thing about the sorority; it is the decision for whether or not you can be “sister material.” Every girl is judged by the sororities from their personal standards and what they are trying to accomplish during school to the littlest thing about make-up. Recruitment weekend is upon us and most freshman girls don’t know what to expect. Day one of the recruitment weekend consisted of t-shirts and getting put into pi-chi groups, a group that is made to help recruitment more manageable that is led by a nonbiased sorority girl. Pi Chi means Panhellenic Counsellor. In your group you learn about which sorority is right for you. This day is important because you get to meet the sororities for the first time. During the group sessions with the sororities you learn what each one is about, what they do for you, what you do for them, and how to represent them. They strongly try to influence your decision to choose them over any other sorority that’s offered. Day two everyone was required to dress business casual. The sororities wanted to see how people would dress up because when they accept someone into the sorority that person is supposed to look presentable and represent the chapter they are a part of. Throughout the day everyone starts to get more comfortable around each other and start to meet more people, make more friends. The pi-chi groups start to talk more in depth about the sororities and what they are looking for so you can start to get a feel for the sorority and how each one is. At the end of the day the sororities start to weed out the people who aren’t sister

Upon assessing the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority house at the University of Iowa, it was determined that stress management and time management were the top two health concerns for the girls that lived in the sorority house. This was determined by using the Checklist of Health Promotion at Worksites survey (CHEW) and a Needs and Interest Survey by Welcoa. Eight total needs and interest surveys were dispersed between a total of 36 members. This group of 8 was thought to accurately represent our target population of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority members between the ages of 18-21. To analyze the Needs and Interest Survey data, the average likeliness to attend each of the 13 different program topics was recorded and plotted on a bar graph.…

Already discouraged, Karina De La Cruz walked aimlessly down Bruin Walk where there were sororities recruiting new girls. She combed through her hair trying to look acceptable into her new environment. As she walked by a blond sorority sister, she was judged instantly, and got handed a dirty look instead of a flier to join. Karina found it amusing and ironic how well she was accepted to a Latina sorority only moments later. Karina could only help but wonder if this additional blow to her already low ego boost was just foreshadowing her future schooling at UCLA. No matter how many odds Karina had against her, still “UCLA said YES”, and that alone provided enough determination for her to proceed on her journey as a Bruin.…

Pledge Allegiance to the flag. The flag represents that we have freedom in speech and equal rights for women and men. I am proud because I have equal rights as a citizen and I am able to go to school unlike other nations. I am also proud that I can have my own religion without having someone else force me into a different one. The flag stands for the republic, which is a democratic government elected by the citizens of the United States. Our republic is different then some other nations,so we should be glad that we, as citizens, can vote for leaders. I am glad of this because if we didn't have this, then we wouldn't be able to have our…

A communication event I recently attended was "rush" for a sorority. It was a series of days where I met with all the different sororities. The whole point of this is to meet many different people to decide which sorority is for you. The event is focused around communicating with people so they can get to know you and you can get to know them. If you send the wrong message about yourself you may not be invited back the next day to see the people that you would like to see again. Also if the person you talk to in the sorority sends the wrong message to you, you may not want to go back and visit that sorority again. You could not be successful with something like this if you cannot communicate properly and if you…

In 1954, President Eisenhower and Congress added the phrase “under God” into the Pledge of Allegiance. It has remained in our nation’s pledge for sixty-two years. However, some of our nation’s population believes that the words “under God” are a religious phrase and therefore violate the establishment clause of the first amendment. They think that “under God” is offensive and too straightforward and do not realize the history behind it. I strongly believe that the words “under God” should be kept in the Pledge of Allegiance.…

    The Pledge of Allegiance

Pledge allegiance to the flag of United States of America. And to the republic for which it stands. One nation under god, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. So is it that hard? Now be honest. When the announcements came on the television at 7:17 in the morning, how many people were excited to stand up and say the pledge of allegiance? I would like to make a bet that more than half of you in this room didn't even say the pledge of allegiance. And go farther with that, more than half of the kids in the school didn't say the pledge of allegiance. Many kids take the pledge of allegiance as something they have to say. I believe that everyone should want to say it, and not feel like it something they have to do. The Pledge of Allegiance is a promise or oath of allegiance to the United States, and to its national flag. It is commonly recited in unison at public events, and especially in public school classrooms, where the Pledge is often a morning ritual. Now hearing what the pledge of allegiance actually is does it change your mind about actually saying it or would you rather still stand there and hear it ? The pledge of allegiance repersents the united states of america, so if you like to just stand there and hear it be said, or worse than that talk during the pledge of allegiance, all you are doing is showing disrespect to our country. Right now there are troops over seas, as all of you should know. Everytime you disrespect our country it is providing the assumption that you don't care how the troops are risking there life for your freedom. OK maybe not you personally. But the united states of america. And all of you are legal citizens of the united states. If it is something so little people are asking from you. Why can't you do it? When there are people over seas dying, injured, and suffering for you. One thing in return wouldn't hurt. Simply showing respect. And it's not just the point of people not saying the…

What is “the giving pledge”? It’s a solemnly bound “promise” which beats the normal promise. Because a pledge is something you are bound to do, and there is no way around it. You could say that “pledge” have a higher status of word if you compare it to “promise”. “The giving pledge” is a band of billionaires who donate money to charity.
