During the Spring of 2016 on the campus of Concordia College Alabama, a group of female educators formed an interest group to determine the feasibility of chartering a chapter of the National Sorority Phi Delta Kappa, Incorporated. The excitement was high and the commitment was strong. Through family emergencies and professional obligations, 22 successful and dedicated female educators met, studied, laughed, and learned together. Through the strength, the determination and the persistence of the "Tenacious 22" the Zeta Delta chapter became the 142nd chapter of The National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa Incorporated was chartered October 8, 2016. This journey through Zeta Delta encourages each of us to plant seeds knowledge and service and to recognize the fruits of our labor. Zeta Delta has established partnerships with Concordia College Alabama, Dallas County Schools and Selma City Schools in an effort to stimulate professional growth among educators and to encourage the development and the potential of youth in the community. Service projects have been consistent with the national emphasis on you, education, and service.
After induction, the moment and continued with projects at local schools supporting literacy, African-American history, and monthly leadership training activities.
Our current projects provide for students and have both local and national focus. Projects planned include but are not limited to drop everything and read project, founders day, and a teacher's ball. The founders day program will have a significant impact on the community as we striveto carry the torch of enlightenment throughout our community and the world.
As a team this group has cohosted a medical symposium, provided school materials to the educational supplies relief project, a teacher Arama professional development activity, and cohosted the education forum 2017 where are own, Hattie Shelton, received recognition.
