West Berlin dependent on shipments from West Germany through East Germany until 1948, Stalin cut off the roads to West Berlin. So, the Americans responded but using an 11 month airlift of supplies that eventually leading Stalin to lift the blockade in 1948 and the building of the Berlin Wall.
