The Girl With Only Two Legs By Stuart Baum
Brave; /adjective/ ;ready to face and endure danger; “A Brave Soldier/ In the story “The Girl With Only Two Arms and Two Legs” by Stuart Baum, the main character Quarta, is brave. She is brave because she started the game “One Ball”, saved another student named Kako and Spied on other creatures with “only” two arms and two legs. The first reason why Quarta is brave is because she started the game One Ball. She started the game because she could not do sports since everybody else she knew had more arms and legs than her. This may not seem like a way she is brave, but, according to the text, at first, even though, one ball was tricky, but Quarta made it work. In addition, she started One Ball even though it might not work out and she was at risk of being teased even more than she already was. This implies that she was brave enough to be willing to be made fun of again, if it meant she even had a chance at One Ball working. Adding to that, Quarta was daring enough to let the people who had made fun of her her entire life, even though they might have been there just to make fun of the game. She did not care if she was made fun of or if One Ball did not work, she just wanted to try, which shows bravery. …show more content…
They were visiting a beach when a fellow student, Kako, ran off and Quarta decided to go save him. In one instance, Quarta climbed up a big rock even though, in her world anyways, it would be harder for her to climb up a rock that was possibly wet and slippery. This emphasizes that Quarta just wanted to save Kako, and that is very brave. Some of her fellow students who had all four arms and legs would not have even been brave enough to do that. Secondly, Quarta even succeeded to be a hero and rescue Kako! If that does not show bravery, I don’t know what

For example Ty from Street Pharm shows the trait bravery through never showing fear and fighting for his life all for the family business. To start off Ty is brought into the police station because he is accused of being a hustler. “If they bring ya in, don’t sweat it. Stay cool and stick to yo’ story (Van Diepen 153).” This quote reveals that by Ty not showing fear he is not giving the cops any reason to believe he is guilty. Malala Yousafzai said, “We were scared, but our fear was not as strong as our courage.” To some people, courage is seen in everyday acts of bravery. When a person does what seems to be a brave act during a calamity, without proper training, it is not bravery. It. Is. Courage. Courage is doing something that is dangerous and noble, but not irrational. It should also make you a better person, or the world a better place.…

Soldiers. Police men. Fire Fighters. When most people think of courage they picture a superhero, or a war veteran. The type of person or superhuman who goes to the extreme to fight for what they believe is right. But courage can be brought down to a much simpler level than that. It’s not that those who fight for their country, or catch criminals aren’t heroes, they are. But so is someone who runs for mayor because they have a brilliant idea to solve poverty in the community. But the thought of public speaking petrifies them. Or maybe it’s someone who decides to go into construction on tall buildings because they know how to use technology to buffer the effects that earthquakes have on large structures. But heights make them squirm. Just…

How is it that being brave can be defined in so many ways and by so many things? Mulan, the protagonist from “Mulan” a famous Chinese legend and Ruri, the protagonist from “The Bracelet” by Yoshiko Uchida share the similar characteristics of bravery. Both stories are set in Asia during war times. Similarly, in both stories, the protagonist, a young girl displays great bravery that helps lead her to self realization. Some courage helps you to do simple, everyday affairs, other courage can help you to face your fears, and the rest of courage helps you to do extraordinary things. An example of having courage to do simple affairs would maybe be to stand up for the new kid even though it might not make you seem cool. Having courage to face your fears might be to conquer your Arachnophobia by squishing a spider or to conquer your fear of heights by skydiving. Having courage to run into a burning building and save a baby even at the cost of your life is a great example of having courage to do something extraordinary. One of my favorite examples of being courageous is the story of David and Goliath from the Bible. The story says that David was only a young shepherd boy who had no military training whatsoever and went up to Goliath, who was considered a giant of his time and the best Philistine warrior, with only five smooth pebbles and a sling. David also went up to the Philistine with the courage that God would help protect himself against Goliath. When David stopped, he confronted Goliath then slung one pebble at Goliath, sinking it deep into Goliath’s forehead, which knocked him out, and then he killed him and chopped off his head. This all happened just because David had courage and trusted in God. This story would be a good example of having courage to do extraordinary things.…
