they cared little about the citizens of the farm. The three important aspects of government that Animal Farm lacks is health, education, and protection.
A person's health is crucial to their well being.
The government helps by supplying us with clean water, food, and rights protecting our work limit. In Animal Farm, the government supplies minimal amounts of food and water to their citizens and the animals are forced into long hours of labor for said food and water. Towards the end of the text, years after the rebellion, the animals are in critical condition. “They knew that life nowadays was harsh and bare, that they were often hungry and often cold, and that they were usually working when they were not asleep”(Orwell 113). This citation shows how the pigs are forcing the animals into labor when they are not asleep. They also neglect the animals needs as they are hungry and cold which could lead to illness and death. One can come to conclusion that Animal Farm’s government cares next to nothing about the Animals health and welfare. Napoleon, the leader of the government is the greatest burden to the well-being of the animals he is trusted to care for. In the rising action, Boxer fell ill and Napoleon “promised him help”. “They are taking Boxer to the knacker’s!” (Orwell 122). This cite reveals how Napoleon was supposedly sending Boxer to the vet to get better but instead, he sent him to the horse slaughterer. He kills the hardest worker he’s had. I can theorize that Napoleon’s under the mindset that a citizen who’s not working is worthless and just wasting air. The government's job is to provide us with the best life while living in an organized society. In Animal Farm, although the animals lives are very organized, they are living in horrid
conditions.
America's government is doing their best to provide education for its citizens. They provide us with schools and teachers so we can thrive in our lives. In Animal Farm, the pigs at first cared about the animals’ education. In the exposition, they tried to teach them to read and some even to write but most of the animals just couldn’t get it. “After much thought Snowball declared that the Seven Commandments could, in effect, be reduced to a single maxim, namely: ‘Four legs good, two legs bad’”(Orwell 34). Instead of simply continuing to teach the citizens, they dumbed down the commandements, leaving the animals dull-witted. In today's society, the government helps fund public schooling to help us students thrive in knowledge and would never abandon us or dumb down it’s citizens. I can infer that Napoleon and Snowball dumbed down the commandments for the simple minded animals so they wouldn’t have more power than the pigs.
American citizens are protected every day by our Armed Forces which are supplied to us by the government. In animal farm, very minimal protection was supplied to animals. In the rising action, in the “Battle of the Windmill”, instead of fighting himself and using tactics, Napoleon sends his animals on his farm into battle blindly. “Even Napoleon, who was directing operations from the rear, had the tip of his tail chipped by a pellet” (Orwell 104). This cite shows how Napoleon was hiding behind the battle “directing operations”. One can infer that he was just cowardly and didn’t care about the protection of his comrades. One thing we shouldn’t be afraid of is our own leaders. In animal farm, Napoleon would ruthlessly murder his comrades because of a speculation about them. “Immediately, the dogs bounded forward, seized all 4 of the pigs by the ear and dragged them, squealing with pain and terror to Napoleon's feet” (Orwell 83). This cite demonstrates how Napoleon didn’t care about the other animals on his farm and there were no rights protecting the animals. I can infer that the government of animal farm neglected to enforce laws protecting its citizens.
Ultimately, Animal Farm’s government although it is incredibly organized, lacks in the aspects of health, education, and protection. It leaves the people under its care cold and hungry, as well as worn-out and weary. The citizens are left illiterate which leads to the manipulation of their knowledge. The animals were sent blindly into the battles without a clue of what was before them. If you were in charge of a government, how would you insure the health, education, and protection of the citizens under your care?
