Dean willingly leaves his wife and kids, as well as Gatsby left Daisy when he went to the war. Dean and Gatsby seem to be the same person trapped in different situations. Gatsby does not like seeing Daisy with another man now that he is out of the war and has not seen her in 5 years. Dean did not like it when Marylou moved on from him and got with another man. They both realized who they truly wanted after seeing them with other people and they regretted what they had done. The women in both, On the Road, and The Great Gatsby were portrayed the same. In the beginning of The Great Gatsby Myrtle is cheating on her husband with Tom Buchanan who is Daisy’s husband. Just like in On the Road the women will just sleep with random men. After Sal and his wife split up he had caught her sleeping with someone that Sal knew in On the Road. They portray the women to be bad people. The woman just let the men walk all over them from both On the Road, and the Great Gatsby. Tom walks all over Myrtle. While they were having an affair she just lets Tom smack her in the face and does nothing about it. She just acts shocked. However, Dean’s wife lets him walk all over her. He ups and leaves her and their kid that they had together and went of to travel and be with Marylou. Every time he would leave her, she would let him right back in when he would come back. In the Great Gatsby most women are in it for money, they just want to marry men for the wealth. For example, at one of Gatsby’s parties a man looked at Jordan and Nick when they were standing together and told her to marry rich, because rich girls do not marry poor boys. The women need to stick up for themselves and not let men walk all over them. This portrays them to be bad people. The Great Gatsby and On the Road are nowhere close to being about the same thing. They might both seem to be very different, but On the Road and The Great Gatsby interpret the same message,
