no freedom. But, later in the novel after Gatsby wants to be with Daisy again ,so she is brought to Nick's house to meet Gatsby, unknowingly at the time, over tea. Once Daisy sees Gatsby she says “I certainly am awfully glad to see you(94)”, which implies that she missed his company. After this Gatsby brings out his English dresses Daisy was impressed and Gatsby won her heart. They soon started seeing each other more and more. But after Myrtle died, Tom tried to be loyal to Daisy which caused issues because she has been with Gatsby for some time now.
Batarseh 2 In the beginning Myrtle was not loyal to her husband, and went out with Tom secretly several times. Also, Myrtle had the power of influence over Tom, because he loved her, by simply saying she really wanted something he would purchase it. For example Myrtle says,” I'd like to get one of those police dogs(30).”
The seller later tells Tom “That will cost you 10 dollars(32).” This is a good scenario to show how women, like Myrtle, can influence men to do things they typically wouldn't and since Tom wanted to impress Myrtle so much he bought it.
If Tom was not influenced by Myrtle in any way he would not have bought the dog for her, but rather explained why she doesn't need it. Also, since she is just a mistress to him, purchasing a dog can lead to some tough explaining to her husband in the future. But after Myrtle died, Tom tried to be loyal to Daisy which caused issues because she has been with Gatsby for some time now. In conclusion the main role women played in The Great Gatsby was being a wife or a mistress to men. Daisy and Myrtle both sinned and had affairs with other men in this novel. Their influence over the men led them to be compelled to keep the women happy at all times. The beauty of the women left the men no choice but to impress them in any possible way they could. Which is the main reason affairs were so common, the Beauty of the
women.
