Helping Groups Heal: Reflection and Recommendations When reading this novel, not only does it draw the attention of readers, but it also teaches readers how to promote the process of transformation in group settings, from a practical and professional standpoint. Throughout the novel, readers learn the importance of The Healing Cycle through the emphasis of techniques, Christian applications, group scenarios, and exercises to be utilized in both individual and group settings. One of the techniques that the authors emphasize is The Healing Cycle, which is a six-step process that works through “grace, safety, vulnerability, truth, ownership, and repentance” (p. 4). As readers delve into the novel, they begin to understand the importance each step of The Healing Cycle holds in small group settings. Before reading this novel, I was aware of the role unconditional positive regard plays in the therapeutic process, but through learning about The Healing Cycle, I have come to realize that there is more to helping someone transform than accepting them for who they are. For someone to experience transformation within a group setting, they need to allow themselves to be vulnerable and honest in order to grow in their journey. As a future practitioner, I want to ensure that I am challenging my clients throughout group therapy by using The Healing Cycle as a guide to help navigate their transformation
