One will learn more about the nature of hobbits and dwarves, wizards and elves, one will infer more about Gollum and why Bilbo’s meeting with him was so important in the event of the lord of the rings, in addition, they essentially follow the same story line and that is one reason to read the hobbit first. Another thing is that Tolkien wrote in a style that is a bit more formal and more intellectual than most modern fiction writers. Also reading the hobbit first before reading Lord of the Rings has enriched my interpretation because now that I have read some of Tolkien’s writing I know his style and what he is lecturing about. I have this image in my head when he starts talking about a character I know what character he is talking about as well as how the character acts. Moreover, I’m conversant with his process of thinking and I am not confused about his book, then if I just read Lord of the rings and knew nothing about the author and his writing
