The Idea Of America
President Franklin D. Roosevelt once said, “We are all bound together by hope of a common future rather than by reverence for a common past that helped us to build upon this continent a unity.” We are unified by our futures and not our pasts. To be an American means to have a ‘Pursuit of Happiness’ and to be equal to anyone no matter the race, religion or where you’re from. However, another way to be American is to believe in the idea, some people believe America is based off of an idea, so by taking the oath which states “I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies,” and by saying this you say that you believe in the idea of America. of America. Many people say America is based off of an idea, this idea is being free, and having fair and equal rights with any other American no matter race, religion, and skin color. However, the idea of American can mean many different things to different people. Such as, having any job you want, having a good education, freedom of speech, and having the right to vote, man or women.
The dream of the perfect life; The American Dream, The American dream was sought out and still is to this day by many immigrants coming from afar. These immigrants are seeking out the American dream and leave their homeland because there country is in war and they are living in poverty. They seek out this dream because they want to live freely and not have to face problems such as, living in poverty, war and having a corrupt leader etc.
