Explain What America Means To Me Essay
Have you ever wondered what living in America actually means? To many people being an American is a title filled with sacrifice and courage. To others it means having a democracy style of government, or to be living the American Dream to some it may mean being free. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and most of them are not wrong, but the question still remains? What does America mean? Does your America entitle freedom and equality, democracy or does it entitle honor and integrity.
When the first people came to America they came for freedom of religion. This people are known as Pilgrims, Puritans and the Quakers. They had hope that in a new nation they could have freedom for what they wanted and what they believed. “Nothing is more wonderful than the art of being free, but nothing is harder to learn how to use than freedom.” says the author of Democracy in America written by Alexis de Tocqueville When this new nation was created we founded ourselves on the idea of freedom and equality for all people. For our Declaration of Independence says “We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, That they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.”

The people who gave their lives so that we may live in the country we live in now. The honor that the brave men and women earned through their bravery in fighting for what's right. Lastly the integrity that we show in what we believe is right. As Americans we don't realize the blessings we have and the life we are living. I believe that American means home to me. The question still remains what does America mean to

What does it mean to be an American, to me it means that I have certain rights and freedoms that nobody can take away from me unless I deserve them to be taken. Most people believe that being an american means that you can get away with doing whatever you want because they have freedom of speech or the rights to do it, but sometimes those rights don’t apply and to me that seems like they are just trying to take advantage of what everyone believes what being an American means. Being an American means that you have more privileges than most countries do and people take that for granted.…

When you hear the word "America", what do you think of? Many would associate this word with freedom, home, friendliness, opportunity, or even greatness. The truth of this reality is that America isn't what people imagine it to be. Americans suggest their country is the greatest place in the world but in fact the corruption, debt, lack of public services and the rude behavior of its people makes America come up short of other's expectations. We the people only imagine it to be great because we live here. The real question to ask yourself is whether everything you have to say about America is true?…

What being an American means to me is that I have the rights to do anything. Even though we are able to have all of these rights doesn’t mean we are able to take advantage of them there are still consequences for our actions. All the people in the Navy, Army, Air-force etc have the job to protect us, not everyone who shoots people just because. Being an American to me means being respectful to everyone. Like what Harry S Truman said, “you know that being an American is more than a matter of where your parents came from. It is a belief that all men are created equally and that everyone deserves an even break.” Being an American means to be brave loyal and kind to everyone no matter what. We…

To be American can be seen in many different ways. There is no right or wrong way to tell whether you are American. Some of evidence that interested me through out the stories is that we are all immigrant, the founding father of America weren’t all American, and how only Chinese immigrants were sent to Angel Island. Out of the several stories that we read, many of them enforced or reinforced my point of view on the situation. My personal view on what it means to be American is that your race, religion, clothing, hair and all things like that don’t matter. To be American you just have to be a citizen of the United States, in my opinion.…

To be American can mean many different things depending on each person, whether if they are an immigrant, alien, or a true citizen. The pure definition of what does it mean to be American is, “To be bored and raised in the United States”. Although it is also said and known that we have free rights, but that doesn’t mean we are a hundred percent freedom free because we are American. For example, say you are watching T.V and a commercial of having a car blow out with amazing prices, comes on; there is always the small print though that states all the real facts of the commercial. With the definition of what it is to be American, there should be a section of the, “small print” to clearly explain…

    What America Means to Me

My poster board is broken up into five different sections. My first section of my collage is pictures of America’s most famous symbols, such as the White House, the flag, Mount Rushmore, and the Statue of Liberty. The second section of my collage is labeled ideals and values. The pictures I choose were family, wealth, products, and democracy. Family, wealth, and products are three things Americans strive for; it’s a common goal for most of us. Democracy is something that we had to fight for so it’s something that Americans value. My third section is societal issues and I choose abortion, gun control, and gay marriage. Something about all three of these topics is that they almost force you to have an opinion. These topics cause debates and force voting and no matter what the government decides on, it will always be argued. My fourth section is strengths, for this I choose freedom, diversity, military, and government. Our government is the best in the world because its fair but also structured. We also have one of the best militaries because of technology that we have because of funding. We are a very diverse nation because we welcome people from every part of the world. My fifth section is labeled weaknesses. The pictures I choose are U.S. Boarder Patrol, oil dependency, welfare, and foreclosure. There is only so much that our boarder patrol can do but there has to be change. Oil dependency in the U.S. is a huge problem because someday it will either run out or get too expensive. Although welfare helps a lot of people, many people abuse it and it’s not fair to the people who work to pay for…
